Literacy Corner

This week we learned two new word wall words: see and a. We also introduced the students to two new Letterlander characters: Mm and Tt, while reviewing the letters we have already learned. We also worked on the formation of each letter during our literacy stations. We are working on letter names and sounds daily. Please work on these at home with your child.

In reading, we reviewed apples, which was introduced to the students last week. We tied it into this weeks lesson by introducing the students to the setting in which apples are raised, on farms. We learned that farms are not only used for growing crops, but they are also used to raise animals. We read books related to farms to help us understand them better. They students learned that informational text is also called nonfiction and expository text. Please continue reading and discussing books with your child at home.

Next week we will review all Letterlanders learned thus far. We will also focus on the sounds of each Letterlander, letter, at the beginning of words. We will also learned about Fire Safety.

Math Lab

This week we introduced the students to positional words. They are doing a good job with this. We also reviewed counting to 100 and our shapes. Please review these skills at home with your child.

Next week we will introduce the students to sorting, while continuing to review all skills taught thus far.

Parental FYI...

Please remember to send in your child's snack money. We have a snack in class daily. We ask that you not send in extra snacks. We ask that you pay for it monthly ($8), quarterly ($18) or yearly ($72) to help use our time more for instruction.

Please leave your child's "Weekly Report" in their communicators. We use the weekly report to help us keep track on behavioral incentives. We then file those away for documentation throughout the year. They will be returned to you at the end of the year.

I hope the students told you about Raz-kids this week. It is a great program that allows the students to read at their pace. You can access our Raz-kids website using the "Digital Resources" page on MGSD website. I will send the logins for your child to do it at home on Monday.

If your child is a lunch boxer, please send items that your child is able to open on their own. If they like foods that they are unable to open, we will teach them how to open them independently. Please practice opening the items at home, as well.
