EPS Family News Flash
July 2021
Dear EPS Families,
Our custodians are hard at work getting the classrooms cleaned and ready for our teachers. The maintenance team is working on installing brand new water fountains throughout the building, each of which will have water bottle filling stations. Many of our teachers are working at ESY and summer programs as well! I appreciate all of the hard work that each of our team members are doing.
Below, you will find some information on some new staff members that we are welcoming, the summer learning portal, incoming kindergarten information as well as important dates to know. Please know that we are here all summer to assist you with anything you may need!
Sincerely,
Amy Amiet
Welcome to Some New Staff Members!
Violet Millington, Kindergarten Teacher Hello! I am extremely excited to begin the school year, at Eldridge Park School, as one of the kindergarten teachers. It will be my tenth year of teaching kindergarten and I really enjoy it. What an honor it is to witness and contribute to a child’s growth and development in all the important areas of their lives: socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically. I look forward to working with the students and their families as we create a productive and happy kindergarten experience. | Chris Clark, Instructional Assistant It is my honor to join the team at Eldridge Park as a special education assistant after being shepherded by my stalwart and generous colleagues at Slackwood School, whom I will miss. At both schools are teachers and staff who will remember Hayden, 17, and Aimee, 13, and of course Melissa, the orchestra teacher at LIS (I might soon be the shortest in height). I am eager to learn, so don't hesitate to let me know how I can improve. This summer, I'm supplementing my training by helping out at Benjamin Franklin Elementary Extended School Year. On double bass, I played in-class and virtual workshops with Tanya Damon this year, and I hope to share these talents again at Eldridge. Thanks in advance for your patience and grace. | Clifton Thompson, Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Clifton J. Thompson, III began his 25-year career in education as a teacher in the New York City public school system. In New York, he taught middle school-aged students who had been retained multiple times. He recognized that his students’ academic success was built upon a foundation of mutual respect they had with him. After being a classroom teacher for nine years, Clifton became an administrator and has held various roles in elementary, middle, and high schools. In this role, Clifton will be working on important issues that impact the life of the school, our students, parents, and the community at large. Prior to starting in Lawrence, Clifton has also been serving as a consultant with Collaborative Equity Solutions and CREED Strategies. In these roles, Clifton has provided professional development and assistance to school districts in identifying ways to rid their systems of disproportionality and bias. His efforts have revolved around creating environments where all students are able to succeed |
