Principal's Report
Fall is Here!
While 90+ degree days do not feel like fall, it is officially here! In 2005, my wife and I adopted our daughter from China and in Chinese, her birth name translates as 'beautiful autumn.' I always think of this when autumn arrives and how beautiful our children are to us. Things are 'falling' into place at Oakview with your beautiful children. Routines and procedures are in place around our building and we continue to be Game Changers. Thank you for all you have done from home to support students during this first month of school!
New ActivPanels
We are blessed to attend schools in a progressive district which considers the needs of all its students. As part of our district technology plan, GCSD recently began to replace the old Promethean boards in classrooms and Oakview was the third school to receive the new ActivPanels! Teams for our ETS (Educational Technology Services) have been installing 4 panels a night and will continue until every classroom has one. These new panels support more interactivity and engagement while showing a crisp, clear image on screen. Teachers and students have been very excited about using the new panels in their classrooms. Help us thank our academics department and school board for supporting our instructional environment!

National PTA School of Excellence survey
We need your help! Oakview is participating in the National PTA School of Excellence program, which grows partnerships between PTAs and schools to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being of all students. At a National PTA School of Excellence, families feel welcomed and empowered to support student success, and PTA is a key partner for continuous school improvement. As part of the process, National PTA requests feedback from families, administrators and teachers at two points in the school year—the beginning and the end. Your feedback will help us improve our family-school partnership and achieve excellence.
Please take 5-10 minutes to reflect on your experience at this school and complete the survey using the link below. Mark the box that most accurately expresses how you feel about your experience. This survey is completely anonymous. Please complete this survey by October 7, 2019. Go To Survey

Reading Workshop for K-2 Parents
Reading Tutor Volunteers Needed
Oakview would not be the school that it is today without our wonderful group of volunteers. Each volunteer job is important, but one volunteer job that makes a lasting change in the life of a student is the job of reading tutor. You do not have to be a teacher to tutor a child! If you want to make a real difference, please sign up to help a child learn to read. You may be the one that gives that struggling student the confidence that is needed to work harder and succeed. Reading Tutor training wiIl be held on Thursday, October 10th at 9:00 AM in the Virtual Lab. If you would like to volunteer to be a reading tutor, please contact Sherrie Brookie, Instructional Coach, at sbrookie@greenville.k12.sc.us.
*Tutoring sessions last approximately 30 minutes and days/times of service are flexible.
