What is It?
Colon cancer is the cancer of the large intestine. Along with Rectal (last few inches of colon) cancer, together are called Colorectal cancer. Most cases start with benign tumors called polyps. Over time, these polyps can become cancerous and destroy the colon..
Risk Factors
- Over the age of 50 (9 out of 10 people who contract colon cancer are over the age of 50).
- If you have had it before, chance are great you could get it again.
- Family history of colon cancer.
- Defected genes
- African Americans are the most likely to get it.
- Type 2 diabetes
- Obesity
- Excessive drinking (alcohol)
- Smoking
