The Rigsby Reader 12.1.14

Updates from Room 311

Thursday Folder Helpers- THIS WEEK

Each week school announcements are printed, collated, stapled, and delivered to each classroom. It is the best way we have to communicate school wide events with each family. THIS THURSDAY (Dec. 4th) is OUR CLASSROOM's Assembly day. If a few parents can come for an hour or so- it will be light work. Please email Anna Warren (our room rep) at to let her know if you are available to help.

Scholastic Book Order / Fair

Scholastic Book Order (Magazine)- I sent home a pile of Order Magazines (great holiday presents!). Place your orders before this Friday December 5th!
Scholastic Book Fair (At Claxton)- The Book Fair is Here! The Book Fair is Here!
  • Mrs. Rigsby's Class SHOPPING TIME: 12/1 11am-11:30am
  • However- if a student has money on Tuesday, I will send them down. (That's the last day)

New Reading Log Component to Homework

Your child was given a December calendar today. On that calendar they need to record how many minutes they read each night. Reading can include reading independently, being read to, reading to a younger sibling etc. Each child is REQUIRED to have read and recorded 100 minutes a week with an adult initialing each day read. (about 20 min. per week day) Once they have read- they should do a reading response. 4 Responses are due on Friday.

The Sweet Rewards:

  • 100 minutes = 5 Red Tickets
  • For every 10 minutes more= 1 RED Ticket. (Ex; Bob read 30 minutes Monday through Friday- so Bob earned 10 Tickets!)

Headphones/ Earbuds

4th Graders have access to a lot of great technology at Claxton. However- headphones are hard to keep around. For this reason (and sanitation) - I would love if each child had their own headphones or earbuds to use in class. The students can keep them in their bookbag in a ziploc/pouch- and take them out when they need them.

If you are able to donate an extra set for the class please do! If you are unable to send in headphones please let me know and I'll make sure your child has what they need. Thank you :)
