The Pharmacy Forest
The Amazon rainforest is home to most medicinal plants in the world. Many plants can be used to make multiple medicines. The cocoa plant was used by the Olmecs, Mayans, and Aztecs used it to treat many diseases. It also produces caffeine which is very important in todays world. The annatto tree is used broadly from treating insect bites to lowering blood pressure and its sustainable. The cinchona is used to make quinine which treats malaria but less than twenty five percent of it is sustainable. The coca plant produces novacaine and is sustainable. The willow tree's bark is used to make aspirin which is commonly used.
Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
There are many ways we can help save the rainforest. Basic ways are reducing, reusing, and recycling but we can also encourage others to do the same. Most trees in the rainforest are harvested entirely but some only use bark or leaves.
