NEWS to KNOW
Our Centennial Spartans Boy's Basketball team is hosting an Elementary Night on Tuesday, January 29th. Boy's Varsity starts at 6:30 vs. Mansfield Timberview (other games start at 5:00). Students in a school spirit shirt or Future Spartan shirt will receive free popcorn. I hope to see you there.

Students in 2nd-5th grade should have brought home a progress report on Friday, January 25th. Please sign and return the progress report.
We are still taking 2nd-5th grade Gifted and Talented referrals until Thursday, January 31st. You can find more information and the referral packet at http://www.burlesonisd.net/departments/educational-operations/gifted-talented-education/. If you need more information, please contact our TAG teacher Kerri Owens at kowens@bisdmail.net.
Students have complete the Middle of the Year Measure of Academic Skills (MAP). Teachers are using this information to intervene or extend the instruction your child needs to be successful. Continue to encourage your child to show GRIT, RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY every day to reach his/her full potential.

Did you know that there are physical, mental and emotional benefits of having regular family meals together? Research continues to show more and more the positive effects of family dinnertime. The Family Dinner Project names specific benefits as...
Higher self-esteem
Greater sense of resilience
Lower risk of substance abuse
Lower risk of teen pregnancy
Lower risk of depression
Lower likelihood of developing eating disorders
Lower rates of obesity
Family dinners also make for a great time to share conversation, learn about one another and be invested in what’s going on in the lives of those we live with. Asking open ended questions and taking time to listen and share, have great impact. A helpful idea is to make up a stack of conversation starters to keep near the dinner table. When conversation dies down, pull a card and ask a question. If you have trouble thinking of conversation starters, there are many to pick from on Thefamilydinnerproject.org.
