What's Going On in the Library?
February 2021
Family Voting is Open for Mock Caldecott
The American Library Association (ALA) awarded its Caldecott Medal in January to the artist of "the most distinguished American picture book for children." Was it one of the books on the Oak Lawn Mock Caldecott list? Actually, yes ... well, one of the honor books at least. And another won a Sibert. But I'm not telling which yet.
First- and second-graders are listening to and discussing a slew of books, and we will be voting on the finalists that make it through our "primaries."
Families may vote from the full list here.

Getting Out the RICBA Vote
The annual Rhode Island Children’s Book Award (RICBA) goes to the book selected by students in grades 3-5 as their favorite from a list of 20 nominees.
Students who read 3 or more nominated books may vote the week after February vacation. Lucky for them, I will have read 3 books in class: "Gross as a Snot Otter," "Just Like Rube Goldberg," and "Titan and the Wild Boars: The True Cave Rescue of the Thai Soccer Team." We also have many copies of several of the longer books on the list, which have been circulating since September.
Which book will win? We'll find out next month.
