Teacher Requests for 2018-2019

Teacher Requests are always a touchy topic, and the procedures have changed over the years. This year, the following process will be followed:

1. Requests must be made through this Google Form- https://goo.gl/forms/2FfdVH7WgsIHc7rI2

Please click on the link and complete the 3 questions to make your teacher request.

2. NO requests will be honored unless they have the 4th question answered regarding "reasoning for the request".

3. Requests will only be accepted during a 2 week period - March 9 - March 23rd. It is too difficult to create class lists with requests coming in through June. (The only exception to this will be for students enrolling after this 2 week period).

4. While we do our best to honor requests, there is no guarantee.

Thank you for your understanding!

Blizzard Bags

As of right now, we have used all 5 calamity days that the state of Ohio gives us. So, for the next three calamity days we will be using our Blizzard Bags. It has been a few years since we have used these, so I wanted to send out some reminders about how they work:

1. We can use these for the 6th, 7th and 8th day that school is cancelled.

2. The assignments will be posted on the Otsego Website (www.otsegoknights.org) under the Elementary Tab, and then under the parent tab (Teachers can also provide students with hard copies once we return to school if needed.)

3. Students will have 2 weeks to complete the assignments.

4. Depending on the color of the day, your child will have specials area classes to complete Blizzard Bags for as well (i.e. Art, Music, P.E.)

Please contact your child's teacher if any assistance is needed with the Blizzard Bags for completion.

Preschool Registration for 2018-2019 is open

We began accepting registration paperwork for NEW preschoolers on Tuesday, February 20th. Paperwork will be online to print out or available for pick up in the Elementary office Classes are on a first come, first serve basis, so be sure to register early as classes fill up quickly.

*Please note: you will need your $200 deposit as well as the $35 supply fee with you when you register. Checks will be held until after May 1st. If you qualify for free tuition with the required paperwork or are placed on the waiting list, your deposit/check will be returned.

*Students must turn 3 on or before August 1st, 2018, and be completely potty trained (unless on an IEP), to attend preschool. Also, 3 year olds may ONLY attend 2 or 3 days per week and are not eligible to attend more days.

Phone Number Changes

If your phone number has changed and needs to be updated in our system PLEASE call the office with that information. There have been many recent issues where we do not have the right number or it has been disconnected when trying to contact a students parent or guardian. It is crucial that we have a working number in the event of an emergency.

Thank you

A Note from the School Nurse:

This year we have the following over the counter medications listed on the enclosed document stocked in each office. Please fill out the form and return to school with your child. We are hoping to cut back on parents needing to bring medication in and/or prevent sending students home. Hopefully this makes it easier on parents, teachers and staff.

Several students have been bringing cough drops with them to school without a note. Students may not take these without written permission from a parent/guardian. We have this listed on the form as well.

As always if you have any questions please feel free to call me at 419-823-4381 ext. 4002.

Thank you,

Jane Gray RN, BSN

It seems like March is flying by and Spring Break is just around the corner! We have also completed two weeks of our Pennies for Patients fundraiser, helping those dealing with Leukemia and Lymphoma. As a reminder, are continuing to raise funds for this organization and our Otsego family until we leave for break on March 29th. If you would like to make a contribution specifically to the family here at Otsego who recently lost their father please send your donation to the office in a sealed bag or envelope with the label “Otsego family donation.” Thank you all for your support of our families and our efforts to give back, not just now but throughout the year.

Our Spring Groups will be starting once we return from break. If you are interested in having your student participate in a small group with myself and/or the interning counselors, please contact me via email. We are offering several groups, including groups focusing on: friendship, coping with stress and difficult emotions, self-esteem and self-image, and a transition group for students get ready to attend the Junior High.

Finally, we are holding our Career Cafe this May. If you are a parent that owns a restaurant or bakery, or is a lawyer, please contact Miss Syrowski if you would like to come in and speak with our third through fifth grade students. Thank you all for your help and dedication to our students. Have a great weekend. Also, don't forget to check out the counseling website at: http://oesknightscounselor.weebly.com/

Please see below for information regarding spring golf clinics in the area for girls ages 8-18. The clinics are not Otsego clinics, but some of our golfers do attend them. They are put on by the Ohio Girls Golf Foundation.

There are four clinics on Saturdays in April. Stone Ridge (BG) and Belmont (Perrysburg) are two local courses where you could attend. Each clinic is one hour and costs $15. You can go to one, two, three, or all of them.

To register, have a parent go to OGGF.org and complete the form by March 31st.

Please help our students by collecting tabs from aluminum cans. Each tab is easy to remove and can be donated to the Ronald McDonald House. The tabs help fund various projects for Ronald McDonald Houses and its visitors. Send the tabs in a bag to the school and our students will do the rest!

You can help the school earn money for supplies by collecting Box Tops. Our PTO collects and counts them and puts the money straight back into the school. (We earn 10 cents per Box Top). If you are able to collect a lot of these, it would be great if you could turn them in in groups of 50, but we will take them even if they are not grouped together.
