Notes from the Principal
Parents & Guardians,
We have had a positive response for donations for a new playground structure. This much needed improvement is taking shape! The thermometer is rising and all donations can bring us closer to our goal.
Are you keeping up on the Superintendent's emails? Remember - we have an Early Release Day on Wednesday, June 9th.. Students will be dismissed at 12:30 and bag lunches will be served.
5th Grade Parents - we are planning on a Celebration and Fun Day for our 5th grade students. Please know that we are still following COVID restrictions and cannot have families at the school. This is not an option for us. We've been working extensively to make the end of year meaningful for our fifth-grade students. All details will be shared on Monday.
Our Gardens need a Boost! Please contact us if you would like to volunteer with weeding and mulching before the end of the school year or during the summer. Your help will be much appreciated
With only two weeks left of school, we are collecting library books and would appreciate all books returned by next Friday, June 11th.
Have a great weekend, take some time to read with your child.

Quote of the Week:
“I am every good thing that makes the world go round. You know-like gravity or the glow of moonbeams over a field of brand-new snow. I am good to the core, like the center of a cinnamon roll. Yeah, that good."
From this month’s read-aloud book, I Am Every Good Thing by Derrick Barnes and illustrated by Gordon C. James.

PTO News
WE ARE MAKING GOOD PROGRESS ON OUR PLAYGROUND FUNDRAISER! BECAUSE WE HAVE NOT YET REACHED OUR GOAL, IT IS EXTENDED UNTIL THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!
Please consider making a donation to the PTO Playground Fundraiser. Every dollar gets us closer to a new, larger, more exciting piece of playground equipment!
With your help, this summer the Orchard playground may be getting a major (and long overdue!) upgrade so that more outdoor play is possible!
You can donate on Konstella - please go to: https://www.konstella.com/open/donations/606e045136bc69794fb9453c or you can send a check or cash into school with your child - just mark 'playground' on the envelope.
EVERY DONATION COUNTS! Consider asking your friends, neighbors, and relatives for just $5 each - it all adds up! Thank you - we look forward to seeing you on the playground this summer!
PTO Zoom Meeting is this Monday, June 7 at 6:30 p.m. Pop in and share your ideas! You don't have to stay for the whole meeting - you can join in just for a bit! The Zoom link is https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83132321343 If you cannot attend, please email your thoughts and ideas to Kristin at orchardschoolvt@gmail.com or suzanne@suzannelaw.com
HANNAFORD is supporting our school again! Please purchase a reusable shopping bag for $2.50 at the store on DORSET STREET - Hannaford will give us $1.00 for each bag purchased during the month of June!
And, don't forget those BOX TOPS!
Join us in earning CASH for our school by using the Box Tops app. It’s an easy way to make a difference. All you have to do is buy Box Tops participating products (like Cheerios!) and scan your grocery receipt. Box Tops are worth $.10 each and they add up fast! Twice a year, our school receives a check to help pay for whatever we need - equipment, supplies or experiences the kids love!
Download the Box Tops for Education app at your App Store or here: https://btfe.smart.link/c2jjdifkw?referral_code=VI7J42XS

Medication Pick-Up
***Please Pick Up Your Child’s Medications***
- As the school year comes to an end, I’d like to remind you about picking up any medications your child has in the Health Room. This includes any medications that your child may need again next year; medication is not stored in the health room over the summer.
- All medications must be picked up by an adult or they will be disposed of by June 24th. Please wait to pick up Epinephrine Auto-injectors and inhalers on the last day of school.
- Please call or email me with questions, to make arrangements for pick up, or to give permission to dispose of the medication.
Thank you!

Summer Library News
Come to Orchard School's library! SBSD employee and former Orchard School parent, Janette Hasenecz, will once again be running the Summer Library program at Orchard School. Thanks to the generosity of our PTO, the library will be open for eight weeks on Wednesday mornings from 9-12, beginning on June 23rd and ending on August 11th. Our summer theme is "Go for the Gold." Every student who comes to Summer Library will receive a special prize that just might have an Olympic game connection. Families may come in each week for a different surprise.
While at Summer Library, Orchard School students may play a game of checkers, build with LEGOs, and, of course, check out some books. Mrs. Janette will be changing activities weekly so stop by on Wednesday mornings for some books and some fun!

Common Roots
Dear Parents,
As Common Roots completes our 13th year of Farm to School lessons in your 3 elementary schools, we would like to say Thank You for welcoming us as essential educators this year, and accolades have expressed for our bringing Farm to School lessons with taste tests to your children.
Several of you have already come to our Farm with your children and picked up your FREE Seed Starter Kits, very exciting! We have plenty more!
This Saturday, June 5th is our Farm Hop. 11-2 at the Farm at South Village, 55 Allen Road East, simply follow the signs. Your children may walk our farm with you, hear stories from our educator, taste yummy foods, and meet our honey bees in person (safely in their habitat)!! Lauren, who has worked with your children will be ready to meet you at our Farmstand. See the attached poster to learn about this fabulous event we have prepared for you!
If you cannot make the Farm Hop, please stop by our farm for a visit. We are open Monday through Saturday, 8 am - 6 pm.
