The Great American Road Trip
Map Challenge
Welcome!
In 2021, we worked extremely hard to walk, run, jog, and bike miles so that we could travel across the state of North Carolina via our very own Mountain to Sea Trail (virtually, of course). Each time we reached a new milestone on our map, we unlocked a virtual field trip so that we could learn more about the state that we call home. Your students walked SO MANY MILES! In fact, they walked enough miles to cross North Carolina twice and then some! Talk about amazing!
Since they proved to be so ambitious with the NC Challenge, we have decided to match our school theme and "build" upon that energy as we attempt to (virtually) trek across the entire country with this year's map challenge. We will begin in Wilkesboro, NC and will trek through each and every one of the "lower 48" states, only to exclude Hawaii and Alaska.
There will be designated "Track Time" built in to each classroom's weekly schedule and we plan to recognize students for each of their milestone accomplishments. At the end of the school year, we have a special surprise for the two students who traveled the most miles. Trust me, you don't want to miss out on this!
We have a new an exciting way of tracking our laps/miles this year. We have purchased a subscription to EZscan, a software that provides each student with a unique QR code that their teacher will scan each time they complete a lap. While doing this, please remember that honesty is the best policy. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher and we will work together to assist you.
Happy travels!

We have currently traveled over 3,900 miles as a school. WOW!!! This means that we have unlocked virtual field trips to the following destinations: The Great Smoky Mountains National Park (NC/TN), Charleston (SC), Okefenokee Swamp (GA), Walt Disney World (FL), The Florida Keys (FL), the USS Alabama (AL), New Orleans (LA), Vicksburg National Military Park (MS), Memphis (TN), Toltec Mounds (AR) and Chickasaw National Recreation Area (OK). The next stop on our adventure is San Antonio (TX).

IN CASE OF RAIN ON TRACK DAY
If it happens to rain on the day that you are scheduled to go to the track, here is an optional walk video that will give each students one mile. Teachers, please let me know if you want or need help in how to use EZscan to log this mile.
