Health & PE New Educator Newsletter

Are you a New Health and/or Physical Education Teacher?

Welcome!

My name is Stacey Sills and I am the Regional School Health Consultant for the Ottawa Area ISD. If you need anything, please feel free to reach out to me at ssills@oaisd.org. If you would like to be added to the Listserv, please email Mandy Laninga at mlaninga@oaisd.org.

Recognizing the strong link between health and learning, OAISD health and prevention consultation aims to support schools in the implementation of the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) Model. Consultation includes supporting a comprehensive Pre-K-12 health education curriculum, student health behavior data and analysis, assessment of the school health environment to support the whole child, and adequate access to health services including behavioral health.

What you can expect from me: quarterly newsletters, updates on health and physical education resources via email, yearly training schedule, and technical assistance.

Michigan Model for Health

  • The Michigan Model for Health™ (MMH) is a nationally recognized comprehensive evidence-based health education curriculum that targets Pre-K through 12th grade students utilizing a skills-based approach. The MMH curriculum teaches students the knowledge and skills they need to build and maintain healthy behaviors and lifestyles. Age-appropriate and sequential lessons focus on the most serious health challenges school-aged children face.
  • The Michigan Model curriculum has released a digital version of the K-12 curricula that links all the student worksheets, resources and videos. If you would like to be trained in the curricula, receive free materials and a possible stipend (depending on grant funding), contact Stacey Sills for more details.
