News Blast to Parents - June 17
Field Day is Monday, June 20th - Important Reminders
If you are a parent volunteer, we strongly discourage bringing younger siblings to this event for safety purposes. Siblings who do not attend school at OP are not able to participate in the activities and this can put you in a difficult position to manage. In addition, our food is budgeted and planned only for OP students enrolled in our classrooms. Therefore, we are not budgeted for special treats or lunch items for additional people. We appreciate your understanding with this!
The weather forecast is 90 degrees and hazy, hot and humid for Monday! Please make sure your child is dressed in comfortable clothing that can get wet. However, bathing suits are not appropriate attire for school. Please follow the guidelines below:
Apply sunscreen on your child in the morning. We are not able to supply or apply any sunscreen on your child without a doctor's note.
All children should plan to wear sneakers to school. This is required for safety purposes and also will support the fun activities planned throughout the day.
All kindergarten and new students to OP this year will be provided a water bottle from PTO that they can use. All children will have access to water throughout the day and can refill their water bottle as needed. Our 1st and 2nd grade students should plan to bring a water bottle of their choice from home. Our PTO will be providing 1st and 2nd grade students with sunglasses for the day!
For students purchasing lunch, Mrs. Armitage and I will be cooking hot dogs outside and students will proceed through the cafeteria line for a drink and any sides offered for lunch. Your child can bring their own lunch if they prefer this option.
Students will have an opportunity to get wet throughout the day with some of the activities and particularly at the end of the day with the firetruck on our OP and OE school grounds. Please send your child in with a beach towel so they can dry off before boarding buses at the end of the day. We will not have an opportunity to have children change into a new set of clothing before dismissal time.
We have sent home a sign-out form for any parents planning to pick their child up at the end of the day. Please bring this form with you and see your child's teacher before dismissal. If you have not prearranged this, please follow our policy by checking them out through our main office.
Our school doors will remain secure throughout the day for safety purposes.
We are looking forward to a great day with our kids!!!
A Special Letter of Thanks for a Successful OP Book Fair!
Dear OP Parents and Guardians,
I would like to thank the parent volunteers who helped make the OP Spring Buy 1 Get 1 Free Book Fair a tremendous success. Once again, they made it all possible. With your help, our sales increased an incredible 24% from last year’s spring sale! That is a tremendous increase as our goal is usually 5 to 10 percent. What that translates to are some fantastic facts for the students:
- The fair sales equal approximately 728 books purchased and 1,456 books taken home (BOGO).
- The fair also generated over 262,000 independent/voluntary reading minutes for the students.
- Also 1,456 books equals over 4 books per student which is so important as the students head off for the summer.
So a sincere thank you to George and Char Stackhouse, Heather Jackson, Kim Taylor, Melissa Lasher, Kristina Zeitvogel, Heather Hurlbert, Kim Lingg, Julie Mcginness, Jen Schojan, Amanda Schmitt, Laura Colvin, Janine, Sarah Frick, Betsy Culligan, Jennifer Thomas, Kristen Ziegler, and Robin Harisis. Also a big thank you to Heather Affronti for taking on the cash register for 2 classes for me. Finally my continued thanks to Kim Martin for her partnership in making this book fair so wonderful for the students, and Jeff Jacobsen for handling the delivery and pick up of the book fair contents. See you at the Fall Book Fair.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Donnelly
On behalf of all of us at OP, we sincerely thank the Donnelly family for their support of the Book Fair!
Happy Father's Day to all of our OP Dads'!
Have a Wonderful Summer Break and a BIG Thank You to all of our OP Families!
Have an enjoyable summer and thank you for encouraging our students to continue reading throughout the summer months! We wish our 2nd grade students the best as they transition to Ontario Elementary School and we look forward to welcoming our 1st and 2nd grade students back in the fall.
You can expect summer mailings and a News Blast as we get into the month of August.
Sincerely,
Pam
