Welcome to Our House "Where Character Matters"
Dear Botsford Families,
This spring we will be introducing our students to PASSION PROJECTS at Botsford.
What are Passion Projects?
Passion projects allow students to study a new idea or skill that they choose and are passionate about.
Why are Passion Projects important?
Students take ownership in their own learning. They learn about something they want to learn about. Passion Projects sparks curiosity, and students have an opportunity to become their own Genius. The project encourages life-long learning, imagination, perseverance, self-awareness, adaptability, as well as other life-lessons.
How does this fit with the Curriculum?
The great thing about passion projects, not only do students get to pick something they are passionate about to work on, the work they do on the project and the presentation of their work also naturally ties in with a number of curriculum objectives and expectations!
As a parent, how can I help?
There are many ways to help. As students decide what they want to do, they will need help expanding their ideas and finding resources. Discussing your child’s ideas and helping with where to find some great resources will be extremely important. As well, while we will provide some basic resources and technology, students may need more specific items that we may not be able to provide. Within reason, helping your bring together the materials they need will help your child be more successful with their project. The students will be very excited and the more help we get, the more we can help students stay focused. Please keep in mind that our PASSION PROJECTS will be going on for 3 weeks.
Goals of this project
- to promote, support, and model creative, innovative thinking and inventiveness
- to allow students an opportunity to discover/investigate one of their passions and reflect on/share their learning with others
- provide students and teachers an opportunity to develop skill sets that are valuable in any learning situation (research, experimentation, collaboration, creativity, problem solving and critical thinking)
- to provide an opportunity for classes to share their Passion Projects with others on Tuesday, June 12th-SAVE THE DATE!
We are excited to share this opportunity with your child and our families as we embark on this new adventure of learning.

Attention 5th Grade Parents!
INCOMING 6TH GRADE ORIENTATION
6th Grade Orientation will take place on Monday, May 14 from 6:30 - 7:30 PM. Please meet in the CMS cafeteria at 6:30 for a short parent presentation by Principal Lown. Students will participate in a connector in the gymnasium during the presentation. Students and parents will then have the opportunity to tour the school and to have questions answered by NJHS students, staff, and administration.
5TH/6TH GRADE ACTIVITY NIGHT
Our annual 5th/6th Grade Activity Night is Friday, May 18 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Admission is $4 with a student ID and $5 without a student ID. This is a great opportunity for our incoming 6th graders to become acquainted with our 6th grade staff, and to have some fun with their new 6th grade classmates from both elementary schools. We hope your child will be able to attend. Parents are welcome to stay, but it is not necessary. Students MUST be picked up promptly at 8:00.
