Words of Wisdom Feature Student: Paris Moss
Paris is a 9th grader at ISWA and is currently pursuing a career in modeling and acting. We're excited to get to share her story and words of wisdom below!
Where does Paris see herself in 5 years?
“In 5 years, I see myself living in Los Angeles. I feel that I will have walked the runway for fashion month which is New York, Paris, Milan and London. I feel that I will be well known for being a model and actress. I believe that I will have already landed a blockbuster movie and a series regular in a tv show. Of course, I have graduated high school. I will have started my own makeup and clothing line.”
What does an average day look like for her?
“In an average day I will have woken up by 9:30 am and get ready to log onto my classes which start normally at 10am. I also look over my schedule and see what I need to do for that day. I generally make a fruit smoothie for breakfast after I am done attending my online classes. Then I put on my music and start completing my assignments. I also practice my lines for upcoming auditions or prepare myself for castings. I take a work out break in the middle of my homework to make sure that I stay in shape for modeling and that way I am not sitting at my desk all day. In my spare time, I practice new poses and study my craft in acting by reading books and learning scripts. Most of my socializing comes through photoshoots, auditions, castings, jobs and just meeting people in the industry. I also must keep up with my Instagram daily.”
How long has she been modeling and acting?
“I have been learning the industry for five years, acting for three years and modeling for two years. I started acting because of a school play I did when I was in 4th grade and realized that this is what I wanted to do. My first job was a national fruity pebbles commercial, since then I have worked with brands such as Humm kombucha, adidas, tomboy x, Nieman Marcus and more.”
How does she find balance between academics and her personal life?
“I normally try to make sure that I stay two days ahead on my assignments because auditions and castings always come up at the last minute and you must be ready!”
Why did she come to ISWA?
“I joined online school because I became too busy with modeling and acting that I was missing too much school. I needed a more flexible schedule where I wasn’t missing classes. The great thing about online school is that I can always watch online recordings if I end up missing a class.”
Her Story
I used to be extremely shy and not social with kids my own age. I was more mature because I have all older brothers and sisters. One day I decided to do the school play for 4th and 5th graders. I was bullied in in k – 4th grade a lot because I am a mixed girl with coarse curly hair and was in special ed classes because I am more of a hands-on learner than books.
I found out the school play was being put on studios east which was an outside production company. I figured I would go into the play auditions as if I wasn’t a shy or bullied person and pretended to be a confident person which in turn was finding out who I really was. I memorized my monologue and delivered it to the casting team and they casted me as the lead role! Then all the other kids at the school realized that I wasn’t meant to be in special ed because I memorized the whole play and delivered my lines perfectly!
Now I just want to show other kids to never let anyone bully you and get away with it. Like my dad always tells me, “The best form of revenge is success”. I just want to be a great role model for other people and let them know to never give up!
