GHS Media Center Monthly Newsletter
December 2015
By the numbers...
Although December was a short month for us, the media center was very busy. We were both making merry, and helping students and teachers.
In December we:
- Made over 240 student ID's (1,870 to date)
- Served over 994 students on passes
- Served an average of over 800 patrons a day
- Circulated over 750 items
- Hosted Art Show
- Hosted Reading Raiders Book Club monthly meeting and movie meet-up for The Hunger Games, Mocking Jay
- Sponsored faculty Secret Santa and Goodie Day
- Served and hosted classes for over 85% of our operating time.
Literacy Promotion
Starting today, the Reading Raiders are sponsoring a school wide literacy promotion. In your mailbox, you will find a laminated sheet of paper on which you can use a dry erase marker to write the title of anything you are currently reading. Display this outside your door or another prominent place in your room. Hopefully, this promotion will spark interest in reading among both the faculty and student body.
Participation in the promotion is voluntary, but we hope many of you will decide to be a part of it.
Guest Speaker Returns
Local attorney and adoption and foster care advocate, Trey Ingram, returned to speak to GHS law classes in December. He served as a family court "judge" while family law students worked through foster care and adoption scenarios.
Santa!
Santa, who looked suspiciously like Matt Phillips, visited GHS before Christmas. He is pictured here with uber tacky staff members, Jan Helton and Andy Newton.
Teacher Tech Awesomeness
Here are just a few examples of how teachers are integrating technology into the classroom. If you are using a new technology in your classroom, please send us an email or stop by the media center and tell us about it so we can share with the faculty.
