2A Classroom Update 7

Home of the Golden Lions

December 18, 2015

Dear Families,

With 2015 coming to an end, we can't help but reflect on the incredible school year we've had so far. We are humbled and grateful to have such brilliant, caring, and hilarious children in 2A. We also appreciate your constant presence and support.

Thank you for coming to our curriculum share. The Golden Lions worked very hard on their campaign videos and were excited to present their different messages about rights, rules, and responsibilities to you. "Listen up parents!" Be on the lookout for the official campaign videos.

Thank you for wonderful parent teacher conferences. We appreciate the thoughtful conversations (with silliness sprinkled in there). We look forward to continuing our partnership and helping your children grow in their learning.

Enjoy the holiday break,

Courtney and Zondwayo

Golden Lion of the Week

The December learner profile is Open-Minded.

Theo was the Golden Lion of the Week for the Week of December 11th. Here are some of the reasons his classmates nominated him:

-"He wanted to play a game that's different than the game we were playing before and collaborated with all of our ideas to make a even better game."

-"When someone shares what they did on their trip he always has a question for them and it's about themselves and their culture!"

-"In number stories he's open to trying really hard problems. He's also open to a choice in choice time that he didn't want in the first place."

Reflecting on the First Term!

This was a very exciting term for the musicians in 2A music! Students worked hard to prepare their production of McKenzie and Omar's "Marching Band" for the BPCS High School Choir in late November. As you can see in the picture above, 2A students then reflected on their performance: their strengths (of which there were many!) and the places where they could grow. They thought critically on how they could improve on their performance and applied those ideas to their preparation for the 2015 Curriculum Share (which I hope that many of you had the opportunity to watch!). It was a really fantastic term of music!

I hope that you have a restful (and musical) winter break! I look forward to working with 2A in 2016!

Ooh La La! Second grade artists are making jewelry for an authentic Mercado de México. Working in clay, metal, wire, and ribbon they are creating all kinds of amazing charms and trinkets. Check out your students at work and —make some time to visit our Mercado (located outside the Studio Lab) next week!! Happy Holiday from the Studio Lab!
