Week of January 11

Week in Review

This has been a crazy week of testing. The students did a great job. They worked very hard all semester and it really showed. Give the kids a hug, they deserve it.

We collected Winter Formal money and look forward to the dance next Friday night from 6pm-8pm. If you child has forgotten to bring in the money, the last day to collect it will be Wednesday the 20th.

Popcorn fundraiser went home. If you would like to participate in the fundraiser please send the order form back with money no later than January 25. Orders will be picked up at school the week of February 12. More information will go out soon.

***Class pictures*** Our pictures will be taken on Wednesday January 20th. If your child would like a picture, please include the money in the provided envelope and have your child bring it to school on Wednesday.

This week we took the EOQ. The students checked their answers to the test questions and wrote a reflection in their reading digital portfolio. Have them share their reflection and goals for 3rd quarter.

In 3rd quarter we will be starting literature circles. Our essential question that we will be focusing on all quarter is "How does conflict influence an individual's decisions and actions?

We are starting our 3rd quarter Genius Hour/ Gateway Project this week involving the concept of "Human Impact." Students will be tasked with taking their second quarter projects to "the next level." As you know, the genius hour projects have taken the place of the Gateway project. Ask your student to show you the Gateway Website for more information about this project. We will be giving the students more specific information over the next few weeks about this project. Our intent is to make this a fun learning experience for the students that will grow them as global citizens and future leaders.

Next quarter we will be learning Algebra! Students will dive into expressions and equations. This will be a challenging concept for some as it is very abstract! Encourage your child to see their teacher anytime they do not understand before it gets too complicated!
