October 2020

A Note from Dr. Reynolds

WBE Families,

We want to thank you for all of your support and for a successful first nine-weeks. It has gone very well given the circumstances. We also want to thank you for being partners with us!

Student-led conferences were a great success as well, with 89% of our families participating. We have always had a great participation, but this is a record for WBE. We are also happy to announce that we will have 25 of our students, who have been SVA, going back to the classroom. This means we will be getting two of our amazing teachers back in the classroom in kindergarten and 1st grade. This is such a good thing for our children and we are very thankful to those teachers for volunteering to teach virtually.

Student Leader Yard Signs

Every year we celebrate the leaders of the quarter from each class. They receive a shout out on announcements and extra house points. This year, students get a sign for their yard to congratulate them on their success as a leader. If your child received a letter from Mrs. Sprouls, you can come to the school starting Monday, October 12th to pick them up. They will need to be returned by November 6th so we can celebrate the next group.

STEM Update

Last Friday, we had our first grade level STEM challenge. It is amazing to see the creativity and engineer-design process with children as young as kindergarten. STEM helps ensure our students are prepared with 21st century skills that are critical as they leave us and head to middle school and beyond. Be sure to ask your child about their experience and what they learned through their challenge.

Burrus Gives Back

We will be collecting toiletries to donate to the Family Resource Center here in Sumner County. Please send in any new, unopened supplies with your child any time during October 12-22. Some examples include: deodorant, body wash, toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner, toothbrushes, etc. Any donation is appreciated. Thank you for helping us give back to our community and support those in need!

Nurse Updates

Please continue to monitor your child and consult with your doctor for any symptoms of illness such as fever, chills, headache, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, new loss of taste and/or smell, vomiting or diarrhea. If your child has a fever >100, they must stay home and be fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medications before returning to school.

Thank you!

Club Updates

Our school mission is to inspire students to become leaders in tomorrow’s world. All students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade learn Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Happy Kids, as well as the Burrus Big 10, and are empowered to be in charge of their own learning!

The WBE Student Leadership Team is designed to promote service learning and showcase those students modeling positive behaviors. Student Leaders help improve our school, and include the following responsibilities: Front Office Team, Library Leaders, Green Team, and School Spirit Team. These future leaders of our community are learning lifelong leadership skills in our Leadership Academy.

The 5th Grade Boyz to Men club is a great way for young gentleman to explore topics such as: humility, confidence, grit, courage, respect, manners, leading and following, resilience, and being true to your values! Sign-ups are open now! See Mrs. Beam for more information!

It is our goal to add back more clubs in the second semester. Be on the look out for sign-ups.
