BATES' BITS

January 14, 2013

What a great game last week!!! January is always a hard month to get everyone on track and back into the school routine. But now with another BCS title in the bag, we are ready to settle down and get to work.

We are still in the process of setting up our Edmondo accounts. My goal is to have all classes set up and ready to go by the end of the month. One of the delays is students' behavior in the classroom. Please remind your students that visiting the computer lab is a privilege and this right needs to be earned.

1st, 3rd and 5th Periods' Coursework

Last week we learned how to write algebraic expressions. One of the tools we used is a foldable. A foldable is a a good way to quickly organize, display and organize information, making it easier for students to grasp math concepts and master skills. We have created many foldables and have been using the Frayer model diagram to write our practice worksheets. For additional notes, examples and videos on writing algebraic example students can go to http://www.onlinemathlearning.com/writing-expressions.html.

This week we will be tackling evaluating expressions and reviewing orders of operations as well as touching on labeling and identifying parts of an expression. Two websites that will assist with evaluating expressions are:

Monday 1/14/13 - Notes and foldable for evaluating expressions. Homework assignment.

Tuesday 1/15/13 - Practice evaluating expressions. Homework assignment.

Wednesday 1/16/13 - Practice evaluating and writing expressions. Homework assignment.

Thursday 1/17/13 - Quiz on evaluating and writing expressions. Begin notes on identifying parts of an expression. Homework assignment.

Friday 1/18/13 - Practice identifying parts of an expression.

2nd and 4th Periods' Coursework

Last week we worked on solving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division one-step equations. This week we will be going over writing and solving equations with fractions and decimals as well as solving word problems using equations. There will be a test on Wednesday, January 20 covering all this material. Two websites that will help with reviewing for the test are:
