HAPPENING AT DMS THIS WEEK
Monday, Oct. 20
- Lego Robotics - Team Robo Sapians (Coach Garrison) practice from 5:30-7 at STEM Academy Bldg
- Math Team (7th/8th) Optional Practice in Mrs. Goldston's Room from 3:15 until 5pm.
- Band students need to be at BJHS band practice field at 5pm.
- Boys 7/8th Basketball Parent Meeting at 5:30pm in the DMS Gym
Tuesday, Oct. 21
- EXPLORE Test for all 8th Graders beginning at 8:30am
- Fellowship of Christian Athletes will meet at 7:15am in the library
- Cyber Security Club will be 3:30-4:30pm in the STEM Academy (Behind the school).
- Softball Parent Meeting in the DMS Cafeteria at 5:30pm
- Wrestler/Parent Informational Meeting at 6pm at the BJHS Wrestling Building - This is for any student interested in participating in wrestling in the 7th/8th grade.
Tuesday, Oct. 21 - March on Madison - Stadium Exhibition
“March on Madison,” the stadium exhibition the BJHS Band is hosting Tuesday, October 21 at 6:30pm at Madison City Stadium. They will be serving full concession offerings so come hungry! Doors open at 6pm and tickets are $5 at the gate.
Thank you for your time and for your support of the band programs at both DMS and BJHS! We look forward to entertaining you with our football show, award-winning competition show (Madison City PREMIERE), jazz band, the DMS jazz band/marching band, the West Madison Elementary Jugglers, and a special combined finale performance with both DMS and BJHS Bands!!

7th Grade Students - Washington DC Parent Informational Meeting at 5:30pm in the DMS Cafeteria. - This is for parents and students who would like to find out more about the trip and the cost.

- Breakfast Book Club will meet in the Library at 7:40am. Any student interested in joining should see Mrs. King or Mrs. Harlow for a pass.

UPDATE - Boston, MA 8th Grade TRIP Information
Parents,
If you are interested in your child and/or yourself going on the Boston 2015 EF Tour, please email Mr. Brewer by the end of this week. mbrewer@madisoncity.k12.al.us
He can send you the PowerPoint presentation for more information. The cut-off date fro enrolling is quickly approaching.
The Boston Trip will be from April 13th-17th this year. Registration is available online at the EF Tour website or you may call 1-617-619-2134. Our trip ID# is 1525987XP. This is a great trip for our 8th Graders.

PANTHERS IN THE NEWS
WAY TO GO PANTHERS
AMRDEC/Girls Inc. - STAR Student
Monday through Wednesday of fall break Girls Inc partnered with AMRDEC on the arsenal to offer a free forensic science camp for middle school girls. DMS Student Maren Stauch was one of the participants in that camp. She worked diligently on her activities and we wanted to recognize for all her hard work.
DMS BEST Robotics Team Finishes Strong in their first Competition
The BEST Robotics Team competed in a competition at Calhoun Community College Saturday.
They received a plaque for participation in the competition (6 out of 11 teams received this) and a plaque representing the team that displayed safety in the pit, booth and playing field.

DMS Chess Team Host Match with Chess Ocean School in China
Rainbow Elementary in Madison, Alabama was the location for the first International chess match between students from the Ocean Chess School in Xiamen, China and Madison, Alabama students who play competitive chess. Students and the schools represented are:
Discovery Middle School: Michael Guthrie and Angela Kinsey
Liberty Middle School: Vishay Ram and Lawrence Zhang
Rainbow Elementary School: Jenson Wilhelm, Hayden Billmann, Constance Wang, Will Bao, Jonah Tuttle, Maanasi Limaye, Alex Edwards, and Edward Calinsky
The International match occured at the Rainbow Elementary Library Media Center on Saturday Oct. 18th at 7 a.m.
The DMS and LMS competition chess teams are coached by Don Maddox and Bradley Denton. The Rainbow competition chess teams are coached by Bill Nash, Noel Newquist, and Ranae Bartlett.

DMS 8th Gr. Football Is the Tennessee Valley Champion Once Again
Congratulations to our DMS 8th Grade Football Team.
They defeated Hartselle Jr. High 7 to 6 last Thursday Night!
They finished the season as regular season County Champs, City Champs and TN Valley Champions.
7th Grade also finished strong as the regular season County and City Champs!

PTA Reflections Contest
The Theme this year will be "The World Would be a Better Place if ...”
The National PTA encourages all students to pursue artistic expression through participation in its annual arts “Reflections” program. The Reflections’ theme for this year is “The World Would be a Better Place if ...”. Your child may submit entries in any or all six of the art categories: visual art, literature, film production, musical composition, photography, and dance choreography. Each entry will be judged on interpretation of the theme with special attention paid to creativity and artistic merit. Only NEW pieces of artwork inspired by the national theme, “The World Would be a Better Place if ...”” are acceptable. All entries must be original. Adults should not alter or influence the creative integrity of the child’s work. The top five entries for each category and each age division from our school will go on to compete at the city level. The grade divisions are: Primary Preschool-2, Intermediate 3-5, Middle School 6-8, High School 9-12, Special Artist -ungraded.
