SCIS Principal Newsletter

Hello Sloan Creek Families!

It's croc and socks time! For those that may have missed this very important information, our students and staff embrace socks and crocs on Fridays during the last month and half of school. I never thought I would find a love for crocs however, I am inspired daily by the fashion choices of our 5th and 6th graders.

On a more serious note, we are seeing more of our students not following Sloan Creek behavior expectations. We met as a staff this afternoon and revisited expectations for our students. These behaviors include being safe, respectful and responsible. A few things we are noticing:

*Running in the halls

*Cell phone use during school hours (cell phones are allowed from 7:00-7:30 and after 2:55)

*Disrespect towards teachers

*Being unkind towards other students

*Inappropriate use of technology

In order to hold our students accountable, we are beginning after school detentions for students that are not meeting behavior expectations. We are first and foremost here to support our students, however we also want to provide clear expectations of consequences when behavior expectations are not met. We know they can do it, and appreciate your support in having conversations at home about expected behaviors at school.

We will be discussing this more during Coffee with Principals tomorrow and all students will hear this information on announcements tomorrow and in a presentation on Monday morning during their homeroom time.

As a reminder, STAAR is next week. 5th grade reading is on Wednesday, April 19th and 6th grade reading is on Thursday, April 20th. No visitors will be allowed on campus these two days, including no lunch deliveries. Please ensure your child has water, snacks, a lunch from home or a plan to buy lunch from the cafeteria, and a sweater (classrooms can be cold).

Please reach out if I can answer any questions for you.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Lovejoy Proud,

Courtney Halpin

Attendance Information

Attendance continues to be a top priority for Lovejoy ISD. It should come as no surprise that attendance has a direct relationship with student learning. Additionally, public school funding is provided by the State of Texas based on each district's average daily attendance (ADA).

Lovejoy has developed an Attendance Task Force consisting of staff, parents, and students to formulate ideas about how to positively impact ADA in our district. One suggestion is to update the community via weekly principal communication on the number of absences each campus has accrued YTD along with the budgetary impact of those absences.
