PINE HOLLOW MIDDLE SCHOOL

February 24, 2020

Pine Hollow Parents,

Thank you for the 243 reams of paper that you donated as part of the PTSA's Copy Paper Drive! This was a huge success, and helped us save nearly $2,000!

At Pine Hollow, we face very real, and very unique, budget challenges. We are given about $100,000 annually in discretionary dollars from the district and state. Our PTSA then raises approximately $40,000 from parents, community members and local companies. So, our total discretionary budget is just about $150,000 per year. (For a variety of reasons, this is, significantly lower than any other middle school in our district.)

Our $150,000 budget is generally used up in a few main areas:

  • Supplies (pens, paper, toner, staples, markers, etc)
  • Furniture (desks, chairs, white boards, etc)
  • Technology (Chromebooks, laptops, printers, etc)
  • Professional Development (conferences, seminars, etc)
  • Staffing (club advisers, chaperones, sports coaches, homework club tutors, etc)
  • Resources (books, software, etc)

So, long story short, every ream of paper you donated, helps us use our funds on more critical items that we need. Thank you for your support and for helping to make Pine Hollow great!

Ben Campopiano
Principal
Pine Hollow Middle School

PS... Join us this Wednesday, 2/26, for our monthly PTSA meeting. We meet from 6:30-8:00 in the school library, and it's a great chance to learn more about what's going on at Pine Hollow!

Healthy Kids Survey for Parents

Please take some time to complete the California Healthy Kids Survey, given annually to students, staff, and parents across the state to help schools and districts better understand their culture and climate. At Pine Hollow, our staff reviews all of the survey results to help us make necessary improvements and changes each year.

Current 6th Grade Parents - Course Selection Info

In about two weeks, your child will be bringing home a Course Selection form to select the electives they want to take next year. Please review the options closely and work with them to complete this form and turn in to the main office as soon as possible.

In the meantime, please keep in mind:

  • Unfortunately, funding for Zero Period PE will no longer be available.

  • AVID for 7th Graders is launching next fall! This is a great elective class for students who need extra support with general academic skills like organization, planning, communication, and collaboration.
  • We are piloting online registration this year, so students will be logging into their student HomeLink accounts to register for classes.
  • Please view the attached Course Descriptions guide below.

Please review these elective options for next year with your child, complete, and turn into the main office as soon as possible. If you need to make a change to something that was already turned in, please contact our Vice Principal, Melissa Brennan.

A few other things to note for next year:

  • Unfortunately, funding for Zero Period PE is no longer available.
  • AVID for 8th Graders will not be offered next school year.

  • Please view the attached Course Descriptions guide below.
  • Feel free to reach out to Mrs. Brennan if you would like to review what electives your child is registered for.
