History and Important Information

Our county was founded in 1762. We have 9 members on the County Board of Commissioners and our County Seat is the City of Charlotte. Bordered by Iredell County, Cabarrus County, Union County, Gaston County, Catawba County, and Lincoln County, our population from the 2010 census was 919, 628; we now have a population peaking over 1,000,000!

As you've probably already read, Charlotte is Mecklenburg's county seat. The city was founded in 1768 and was named after Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg; just like the county's name! The commission has 9 members and each serve a 4 year term. We are known for things like, the home of the NFL's Panthers, the birthplace of NASCAR, and schools such as UNCC and Queens University of Charlotte.
