Financial Aid
From the Counselor's Office
APPLYING FOR STATE AID
- I will be meeting with seniors on October 9th during Religion, and they will have the opportunity to complete the YOUniversal Application for state aid at that time, which includes the Arkansas Academic Challenge (also known as the "Lottery Scholarship").
- It is the student's choice and responsibility to fill out the online YOUniversal Application, whether it be on October 9th or at another time.
- Students will need to request their transcripts and ACT score be sent to ADHE after completing the YOUniversal Application. Please allow 3-4 weeks for the transcript and ACT scores to be processed and student accounts to be updated.
- ADHE typically starts awarding scholarships in mid-April to students who have met scholarship requirements and submitted all required documents--high school transcript, ACT scores, and FAFSA.
- Once awarded a scholarship, you must officially accept the scholarship; therefore, when you receive your award offer (typically through email), be sure to follow the instructions to accept the scholarship by the deadline stated. If you don’t, you will not receive the scholarship.
FAQ'S
What is the difference between the FAFSA and ADHE’s YOUniversal Application?
- The FAFSA is the application for federal financial aid programs, such as the Pell Grant and student loans.
- ADHE’s YOUniversal Application is the application for State of Arkansas financial aid programs, such as the Academic Challenge Scholarship and the AR Futures Scholarship.
- You must complete EACH application to be considered for each type of aid.
- Completion of the FAFSA is NOT an application for any of the ADHE programs, nor is completion of the YOUniversal application the same as the FAFSA.
How do I get my FAFSA information to ADHE?
- ADHE receives FAFSA information for all applicants who list an Arkansas college on their FAFSA. It generally takes about a week from the time you complete the FAFSA until it is received at ADHE.
Does ADHE have the needed documents to complete my application?
All applicants are encouraged to check the status of their ADHE accounts online through the YOUniversal Financial Aid System. When an applicant’s account is updated, the change is reflected on the program specific page of that account. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all required documentation is submitted to ADHE by the appropriate deadlines.
