Welcome Back
Dear Students & Families,
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I hope you are having a wonderful summer. We have been very busy at school cleaning and getting the building ready for your return on August 28th. I am so excited for my first year as Principal of King! I want the best for all of our students here at King Elementary School. Please know that I am always here to support you and your child/children as needed.
The first day of school is August 28th for grades 1 - 5 and August 29th for the Kindergartens. For the first week of school, you are welcome to walk your child to their classroom. However, after the first-week students are expected to carry their belongings down to their class independently.
I would be remiss if I didn't say thank you to the parents who came to the Meet and Greet recently. I enjoyed meeting you and your children. Thanks for sharing your concerns and the wonderful ideas you have for King. It was a pleasure being the guest reader at the PTO library event. I was so moved by the small paper planes with special messages I received from the students. I feel truly lucky to be a part of the King family!
Please, feel free to call the school to schedule a meeting with your child’s teacher. The purpose of this meeting is to be able to meet your child’s teacher, ask any questions and share about your child.
The School Council is looking for community members and parents to participate in the committee. The committee meets once a month for about an hour and a half. It helps identify educational needs, adopt educational goals, and help to form the school improvement plan. Please reach out if you are interested.
I'm excited about this school year and look forward to working with you and your child.
Sincerely,
Dr. Marguerite Lackard
Principal
Back to School
We know starting school can be exciting, confusing, and even a scary time for kids and their parents. New teachers and classmates, new schedules and demands - these changes can be a lot to prepare for and absorb. Planning ahead can help you feel confident and informed.
Get those shots. Some schools require immunization records and or update of immunizations. Find out if your child needs any vaccines before school starts.
Ease into the school routine. A night of good night sleep is key to a successful school day. School-age children need at least 10 hours
Teach your kids about phone safety.
Plan and practice how to get to school.
From our School Nurse
Welcome Back! I would like to share some important information about screenings, physical examinations, and taking medications in school.
Screenings: During this school year a variety of screenings will be done with our students, including Body Mass Index (height and weight), vision and hearing. Grade 5 is scheduled to have scoliosis screening. If parents do not wish to have your child participate in screenings, please feel free to send this request in writing to your school nurse. Parents will receive notice of results of vision and hearing screenings that require medical follow up.
Physical examinations: If your child had a physical exam this summer or has one during the school year please send a copy to the nurse’s office. If your child has had any significant change in their health please let us know. Updated physicals, immunization records, and other medical reports are important to keep us up to date with your child’s health and to best help us meet his/her needs.
Medications: Certain “over the counter” (OTC) medications can be in school with parent permission. “OTC Medication in School” permission forms to allow limited OTC medications to be given in school will be sent home with your child on the first day of school or are available for you to download on the School Health Services website. Prescription medications require a doctor’s order and parental permission to be given in school and must be delivered to the school nurse by a responsible adult.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s health please contact the nurse's’ office during the school day at 508-782-7595 or by email at lrenault@framingham.k12.ma.us
Sincerely,
Linda Renault
School Nurse
OTHER
Explorers Afterschool Program
A few parents asked about the afternoon Explorers program and how to sign-up for it. Amanda King is the main contact for both programs. The contact phone number is 508-745-7972.
Student Safety and Wellbeing
- All doors are kept locked at all times
- All adults must clearly display an ID badge at all times
- All parents and visitors should check-in at the front office
The first week of school, the teachers will review and practice our fire drill, lockdown, and shelter in place procedures. This is something all schools in the district must do. In addition, during the first month of school, the fire department does their fire drill safety procedure with our school. Please, talk with your child/children about these procedures ahead of the time. We want our students to be calm and aware of what is to come regarding our safety procedures.
PBIS & SEI
SEI - Social Emotional Learning lessons will be incorporated into the school day to help students understand and manage their emotions and learn to deal with the world through collaborative processes. SEI promotes students' social, emotional, behavioral and academic success in school and beyond.
