Important 5th grade information!
June 11th – 5th Grade promotion ceremony in two parts-
Part 1: Zoom Ceremony 1:30PM-2:30PM- Families can watch students walk across the stage to receive their certificates and any awards remotely (time and Zoom link to come later) **We would like to have all in-person cohorts at school on this day. We will also record the event and send out a link to families in case you aren’t able to access it live.
Part 2: Reception 5-7 PM at Our Savior Lutheran Church parking lot- You can arrive starting at 5:00 to decorate your car and then at 6:00 students will line up to parade through the parking lot. (More info to come.)
Because our fifth graders can’t go to Camp Colman this year, and we really don’t want our students to miss out, we are having an "Outdoor Edu(stay)cation" at Collins on June 14, 15, 17 & 18th. All in-person cohorts are invited to attend each day. We will integrate many of the traditional camp activities in a safe, socially-distanced manner here at Collins. We are excited to be able to provide this special event for our fifth graders this spring.
COUNSELOR CORNER!
As we continue to navigate through social distancing, our kids are trying to keep their friendships going anyway possible. I’ve noticed an uptick of our students using social media apps like Snapchat, Discourse, Instagram and Tik Tok. Below is a link to a short article from Common Sense Media. It outlines 4 things parents can do to help their children avoid digital drama. It also includes more specific links to other articles you might find helpful.

Releases needed
Please remember Monday, May 31 is the deadline for school choice/releases to be submitted to have your children considered for placement at Collins next year. A letter and district policy was emailed (last week) from Erica Kropilak to all families that need to submit one.
Out of District – Students who live outside of the Franklin Pierce Schools boundaries, and are currently attending, will be considered for re-enrollment upon receipt of a school choice transfer from the school district in which you reside.
With-In-District – If you are attending Collins on a release from one of the other elementary schools in our district, the online release must be completed by May 10 to hold a spot for your child for next year.
Overload students – If your child is currently enrolled at Collins on overload from another school in our district, you must enroll as soon as possible in your home school. This ensures that your child will be included in their spring placement process. Please remember that your child will be withdrawn from Collins at the end of the year.
If you have any questions about this process, please contact the office at 253-298-3400.

Notes from Ms. Marta...
As a reminder, attestations do not count as attendance, parents are still asked to call the office if a student will be absent.
Now that the weather is getting nice, please be prepared for the seasonal allergies. Give morning medication prior to school starting or call the nurse to find out about medication at school.
Warmer weather plus masks equal symptoms of heat exhaustion. Please send students with water bottles to prevent dehydration!
Thank you for your continued attention to these matters. Feel free to call the health room at 253.298.3408 with any questions.
