There are many special activities that will be occurring between now and the end of the year. Many grade levels will be doing these at separate times. Please contact your child's teacher if you need specific times or schedules.

We are planning ahead for next year. We sent over 250 DCS background checks to Scott Co. DCS this year. We are happy that so many of our family members want to volunteer and spend time with our students. If you plan on volunteering any during the next school year, we are asking that you complete the DCS background check before the end of school this year. Please fill the following form out and send it back in with your student by no later than May 26th for each family member who may want to volunteer next year. We also have copies in the front office. To prevent any delays in processing these, we need all forms turned in as soon as possible. We will NOT be doing a kick off or collecting forms when school begins. Please Note: This collection of forms is for next school year and will allow us to begin with our volunteers on the first day of school.
If, during the 2016-2017 school year, you or any family member plans to do any of the following, we NEED you to fill out this form and turn it in no later than May 26:
-be a VFES Hero/Watch DOG
-volunteer in the classroom
-coach a school sport
-sponsor a school club
-chaperone a field trip

Mrs. Banister Receives Crystal Apple Award at Vienna-Finley Elementary School
During a recent staff meeting, Mrs. Brittany Banister, Vienna-Finley Elementary school kindergarten teacher, received the Fourth Quarter Crystal Apple Award. Mrs. Banister was chosen for her positive parent communication. Mrs. Banister was presented the award by Mrs.Tiffany Barrett, principal of Vienna-Finley and Mr. Richard Jackson, a representative of Horace Mann. Horace Mann sponsored the award. The Crystal Apple will be awarded to a Vienna-Finley teacher once each quarter for his/her accomplishments in educating students.

Mrs. Goni Luttrell Receives "This Bud's For You" Award!
During a recent staff meeting, Phyllis Carr, previous recipient of the "This Rose Bud's for You!" Award at Vienna-Finley, presented Mrs. Goni Luttrell with the award for the month of May. Ms. Carr stated the following in honor of Ms. Luttrell. "I would like to nominate Goni Luttrell for “This Bud’s For You.” Goni has been a big asset to Vienna-Finley. She’s a great teacher who loves her students and works hard to meet their needs, both academically and emotionally. She’s caring and kind-hearted and brings a sense of humor to every situation. Mrs. Luttrell definitely makes Vienna-Finley a better school!"

Hannah Thomas is Secretary for a Day at Vienna-Finley!
Hannah Thomas, a fifth grade student at Vienna-Finley, recently accumulated enough Accelerated Reader points to be Secretary for a Day with Mrs. Mikel Graves. During her time in the office, she performed many duties including making classroom deliveries, answering the telephone and helping school visitors.
Vienna-Finley Students Earn Popcorn and a Movie!
Students in third through fifth grades who raised $150 for the VFES Walk-A-Thon enjoyed Popcorn and a Movie today! They had a ton of fun watching Inside Out! Thank you to our amazing PTO for the popcorn! Thank you to everyone who took part in making this Walk-A-Thon a HUGE Success!
Scott County YMCA and Vienna-Finley Elementary School Work Together to Support One Another!
Chrissy Deaton, from the Scott County YMCA, came and taught Zumba to all Vienna-Finley Elementary students after lunch today! Vienna-Finley is sponsoring the Scott County YMCA this month with their popcorn Fridays.
Addison Borden Earns Lunch With the Principal at Vienna-Finley
On Friday, May 13, Addison Borden, a fifth grade student at Vienna-Finley had lunch with Mrs. Barrett. Addie earned that privilege by accumulating 450 Accelerated points. Addie and Mrs. Barrett enjoyed her favorite lunch from Taco Bell. Congratulations Addie!
Accelerated Reader Prize Deadline is May 20th! Any points earned after that date will not be applied toward prizes on the AR Prize chart.
The Labels for Education program is ending and Mrs. Toppe is going to submit one last order. Please turn in all labels ASAP.

Addie Borden earned the opportunity to be Secretary for a Day at Vienna-FInley by reading and accumulating 500 Accelerated Reader points. Addie worked in the office with Mrs. Mikel Graves and performed duties such as answering the telephone, running background checks, and making classroom deliveries.

New Tech Plants Memorial Garden at Vienna-Finley!
On , students in Mrs. Tonya Callahan's advisory volunteered at Vienna- Finley Elementary. During their time there, they helped provide games for the students holding the annual Walk-A-Thon fund raiser, and also planted a memorial garden in memory of all students who have passed away.
