School Re-Entry Update

From the announcement by Superintendent Dr. Deena Bishop:

ASD has made the decision to delay the start of in-person school. We do not have a set date for bringing students back into buildings at this time. ASD staff will continue to actively plan for school reentry and will be prepared when community conditions allow.

Fall Conferences

Our fall conferences will be different from the ones in past years. Fall conferences will be held on Thursday evening, October 22nd, via Zoom. The purpose of parent-teacher conferences is to work with families to understand how to support student learning both at home and at school. Thursday, October 22nd, will be a full instructional day. Students will not be released from school early on Thursday. Rather than host individual parent conferences to review first quarter grades, we will organize a virtual back-to-school event on Thursday evening so you can meet your student’s new teachers for the second quarter of school. We will send a schedule for this event closer to the date. Also for your planning purposes, there will be no school for students on Friday, October 23rd.

Activities Information

In January we will begin offering intramural sports, to be determined based on student interest and coach availability. We will begin those conversations when we return to school.

To be prepared to participate, please make sure you have all the necessary forms filled out and turned in when you come back. You will need the following: Sport activity form, current physical (good for 18 months) and the new ASD Covid 19 Waiver. All these forms may be found on the ASD Website, https://www.asdk12.org/Page/5459

All sports/activities are free of charge this year as they will all be intramural, not interscholastic.

As always, if you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Gruening Activities Office at 742-3612.

Warmly,

A Message from the Principal

I have had the opportunity to visit many of our classrooms during this Zoom educational format. I want to assure you that good things are happening in this different, unique approach to education. GMS students are engaged in their learning, and teachers are approaching their craft in a professional, thorough manner. Despite the challenges we all have been facing with the COVID-19 pandemic, I am very proud of the work our students, teachers, and staff are doing.
