VEX Robotics Competition...3rd Time is Almost a Charm
This year was the third year that Pontotoc Ridge Career and Technology Center had the opportunity to compete in Itawamba Community College’s VEX Robotics Competition. PRCTC has carried one team to the competition the last two years, but because of Mr. Phil Ryan (PRCTC director), being able to put more money into the Engineering program PRCTC was represented by three teams this year.
The competition took place at ICC’s Belden campus on December 3, 2015. None of the three teams won the championship however they did advance to the semi-finals, the farthest PRCTC has ever made it.

Architecture and Drafting in the Real World
by Bryson Tackett and Nicholas Montgomery
Pontotoc Ridge Career Center is a chance for high school students to learn skills in a career of their choice. The second year students of Architecture and Drafting class here at the Vo-Tech are using what they have learned and are still learning this year in a realistic setting. These students are marking one of their house plans on the ground behind the career center using wooden stakes to represent the corners and string to show the outline of the house. This activity is giving the drafting students the chance to see and incorporate their learned skills in a real life experience. This is allowing the students see how their skills can be and is used every day, even on simple things in their everyday lives. Architecture and Drafting is a great class that helps students to see how the classes took in school are used outside of school, whether it be at work, home, or wherever. This is allowing the students to see what actually matters and what they have done or will do after graduation will branch back into their schooling.
