From our PFC Co-Presidents

Aloha,

If you looked at the calendar today, you know that we are in December, the last month of what has been a different year in so many respects. One thing remains the same: Thornhill continues to be a thriving and connected community.

As part of that, we encourage you to join us this Saturday, December 5 at 4pm, for our first ever Thornhill Trivia Night. We have teamed up with Fun Team Events to host a little friendly trivia competition that will let you show off your knowledge of all kinds of topics. If you’d like, you can also think of it as an informal tribute to the late, great Alex Trebek. Please RSVP in Konstella so we know how many to expect.

Also...Monday, December 14 will be the final PFC meeting for 2020. As always, it will be held via Zoom and go from 5:30-7pm. All Thornhill parents are welcome to attend and get involved - info & RSVP on Konstella. We hope to see you there.

Mahalo,

Rex Crum & Alicia Streight

Thornhill Spirit Wear Deadline Extended to Monday!

We've extended the pre-sale deadline on the spirit wear until Monday, December 7th! But after December 7th, it's the end of the line. No sweet baseball tees for you.

We've partnered with Oaklandish to help with the printing and have been able to keep the costs for all the gear fairly low (while still getting some great quality stuff). There's hoodies, crewnecks, t-shirts and baseball tees and you can get everything but the baseball tees in navy or heather gray. We've got Youth XS - XL and Adult XS - 2XL of everything.

BUT, you can only order until Monday, December 7th... Order here!

Thornhill Auction - First Meeting

Hello everyone!

It's that time of year to start thinking about and planning the 2021 Annual (Virtual) Auction.

The 2021 Auction Committee needs your creative ideas! We are asking for your help to brainstorm fundraising ideas of things that could work in our COVID environment. That is right - we only need you for an hour to help generate creative fundraising ideas. All are very welcome and invited! New families too!

The meeting will be one hour on Wednesday, December 9 from 7-8 pm. Information and RSVP on Konstella.

Questions? Email benefit@thornhillschool.org or call 415.971.3559.

Oakland Virtual Schools Tours

Looking to take a virtual tour of an Oakland middle or high school? Oakland Enrolls is tracking virtual tours here. If you are a parent of a 5th grader, we have posted Oakland middle school virtual tours in the 5th Grade Families Konstella group.

Additionally, explore OUSD schools through their SchoolFinder. The application window for the 2021-22 school year opened on November 16, 2020 and will close on February 5, 2021. Note this window is only if you are applying to a new school at any grade. Info will come in late spring about staying at Thornhill.

About the Thornhill Newsletter

The Thornhill Parent-Faculty Club (PFC) eNews team publishes this weekly newsletter each Tuesday in the school year to communicate school, PFC and OUSD news, events and information.

Email submissions to our Newsletter Chair, Jill Evans, at newsletter@thornhillschool.org by 8 p.m. Thursday for approval—nothing sent after this will be included in the following week’s newsletter unless there are extremely compelling extenuating circumstances. It’s fine to include text in the body of the email with links and no formatting, and attach photos preferably as 150 x 150, 72 dpi JPG or GIFs only (not embedded in email or Word file). Submissions may be edited for spelling, grammar, brevity and clarity. Advertising and items not related to Thornhill are not accepted, as we need to keep the newsletter focused on need-to-know info for the community.

THANK YOU to everyone who submits articles and to PFC Board Members, Teachers, VPs of Communications Erin Proudfoot & Evie Nagy, PFC Presidents Rex Crum & Alicia Streight, and Principal Steve Daubenspeck. Member of Oakland Unified School District (OUSD).
