Exploring the Characteristics of Place
Parks and Maps
Students explore a map of a park and use map symbols, a map key, and cardinal directions to analyze it. Students can also learn about and brainstorm natural and cultural characteristics of places. Then students identify those characteristics in their own community.http://nationalgeographic.org/activity/characteristics-of-place/
Issues and Conflict
Students can explore the human and environmental impact and issues of our local, state, national and world parks as well as how systems within a park interact and impact each other. http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/travel/top-10/national-parks-issues/
