From the Principal's Desk...
Dear Parents and Guardians,
For the 2022-2023 school year, we have adopted the theme of “Let your Light Shine” here at St. John the Baptist School. This theme was discussed this summer and brought to the teachers at our first inservice of the year. As you walk through the halls, there are multiple references to our school’s theme on classroom doors, bulletin boards, and in classroom discussions. We are encouraging our students to Let their Light Shine in positive ways by being kind and respectful to everyone they cross paths with throughout their day. This theme will be discussed throughout their Religion curriculum, and it will be incorporated into our All School Mass Homilies as well as during our Blue Jay Time each week. The students have embraced our theme for the year, and I have congratulated many of our students for receiving our “Shining Light Award,” which has replaced our previous Attitude of Gratitude Award. I encourage families to talk to your children about how they are letting their light shine each day. As a faculty, we are continually reminding our students to “Let their Light Shine” through their words and actions in order to create a strong sense of community within our school.
Keep reading below about some important dates and information including the 2022 Walk-a-Thon and the PTO membership drive. Both of these events are quickly approaching and are important to our school.

60 Pounds of Pull Tabs Donated!!!
Thank you to our school family who kindly volunteered to deliver our pull tab donations to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Cincinnati last Friday. They weighed in at a whopping 60 pounds!
It takes approximately 1,128 pop tabs to equal one pound and they typically receive between $0.40 to $0.50 per pound of aluminum tabs. This program brings in an average of $6,000 each year for The Ronald McDonald House to provide extra revenue that makes up for the donations that families cannot afford when utilizing their facility.
Thank you to all those school and parish families for sending in your pull tabs....keep them coming! The tabs can come from soda cans, energy drinks, soup cans, or anything with a metallic tab.
We have been informed by NWLSD that they will no longer be sending out text messages to individual parents when buses are cancelled. Instead, they will be sending the schools a list of weekly cancellations. St. John's will forward those to you each weekend via email and text. NWLSD hopes to have their Stop Finder app available to all parochial school parents in the next few weeks.
The school library will reopen on Monday, September 12th. If you would like to volunteer in the library this year please contact Trisha Maddux at firstname.lastname@example.org. Volunteers must be Safe Parish compliant.

Shining Light Award
Congratulations gentlemen on being a "Shining Light" to our school. In keeping with our school theme this year, "Let Your Light Shine," teachers can recognize a student for an act of kindness that was caring and helpful to one of our fellow Blue Jays. The recipients' names are then announced during morning announcements and they receive a Shining Light Award certificate.
Seventh grade math students have been collecting data for their statistics projects by comparing populations. Measuring heights and bumping volleyballs are two methods in which they gathered their numerical data.
