Norfolk Public Schools Foundation Scholarships
The Norfolk Public Schools Foundation is offering several local scholarships to Norfolk High graduating seniors! By completing one application form you can apply for many scholarships. The due date for all applications is March 20th at 4:00 pm. You will find all instructions, more information, and the application form when you go to the NPS Foundation Page on the NPS District website.
To apply:
- Complete the application form on the NPS website. Make sure you fill in all required fields and mark the scholarships you would like to be considered for.
- Transcripts are required. Contact the counseling center for an official transcript.
- Some Scholarships require essays and/or letters of recommendation. Refer to the individual scholarship description for all requirements.
- If you are applying for scholarships where financial need is part of the criteria, then you must complete the FAFSA and include the “Student Aid Report Summary” with your application. You should receive this within 4 days after submitting the FAFSA online or 3 weeks if you apply by mail.
- The entire application is online this year and will need to be submitted digitally.

L. "Ron" Letson Acacia Leadership Scholarship
Acacia Fraternity is pleased to announce a scholarship opportunity for young men who display motivation for personal success, an interest in developing and applying leadership skills, and who plan to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for the 2017-2018 academic year. Acacia Fraternity is awarding one leadership scholarship in the amount of $1,000 and 2 in the amount of $500 each to incoming male freshmen at UNL. They encourage the submission of an application even if a final decision on university attendance has not yet been made. These scholarship awards are not dependent on membership. Applications must be submitted online at http://bit.ly/acacia_unl no later than January 31st.
Susan T. Buffett Scholarship
This is a scholarship that many students can apply for. It is a great scholarship that can cover tuition, room and board, and books. Students who receive this scholarship usually have their college paid for. We have had many students in the past get this scholarship! The eligibility has changed this year so please make sure you refer below to see if you would qualify. The application requires you to complete an online application, two letters of recommendation, transcript, essay, and SAR report from completing the FAFSA. All application materials are due February 1st.
To be eligible for a scholarship from The Susan T. Buffett Foundation, a student must:
- Be a resident of Nebraska
- Residency is determined by the institution where you enroll
- Graduate from a Nebraska high school or earn a Nebraska GED
- Achieve at least a 2.5 cumulative unweighted GPA in high school
- 2.5 on a 4 point scale
- 80 on a 100 point scale
- Be a first-time freshman when entering college
- Students obtaining dual enrollment credits in high school are still eligible to apply
- Plan to attend any of the following Nebraska public institutions:
- Nebraska Community Colleges - Central, Metropolitan, Mid-Plains, Northeast, Southeast, or Western Nebraska;
- Nebraska State College System - Chadron State, Peru State, Wayne State; or
- University of Nebraska - NCTA, UNK, UNL, UNMC, or UNO
- Be in need of financial assistance in order to attend school
- Note: Students do not need to be Pell Grant eligible to qualify
- Students must have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) below $10,000 in order to apply
- To calculate your EFC, use the 2017-2018 College Funding Estimator
All eligible applications are reviewed and scored. Selection is based on the following criteria:
- Financial need
- Academic merit
- Personal essay
- Strength of recommendations
Every applicant who completes an application receives a decision notification via email by May 1st
2017 Nebraska Lumber Dealers Association Student Scholarship
Scholarships of up to $250 available for Nebraska high school seniors pursuing a college program related to the lumber and building materials industry to cover course fees. Scholarship applications are due February 1st.
Sanford Health Network Chairman's Challenge Scholarship
Sanford Health Network is offering a $2,500 one-time scholarship for higher education to a current high school student interested in rural health care. To apply, high school students should develop a plan to attract more students into health careers in rural settings. All scholarship submissions must include a completed application form and attach a plan that can be implemented. Format of your plan is up to you. Email your submission to: chairmanschallenge@sanfordhealth.org. The top submissions may be invited to Sanford to participate in a ten week experience to help implement your solution. The challenge can be submitted by an individual or group work. In the event that a group is selected, the scholarship will be divided evenly among the members of the team. Application Deadline is February 1st.
Nebraska Society of Professional Engineers
NeSPE offers scholarships for high school seniors that plan on attending an engineering program next year. The high school scholarship cover letter and application is available. High school applications are due February 1. The following scholarships are offered:
- State Annual Scholarship (In-state only): $1,500, Two (2) Available
- Northeast Chapter Annual Scholarship (School of your choice): $1,000, One (1) Available
Applying for a Chapter Scholarship automatically applies the student for the State Scholarship also. The student must submit their application to:

The key requirements are:
- Applicants must plan to attend an engineering program that is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET-EAC)
- US Citizen at time of application
- Minimum GPA/SAT/ACT scores listed in application
- List references, activities, financial information and jobs
- Provide an essay
Elks Legacy Awards
Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships for children and grandchildren of Elks members. The Foundation will offer a total of 250 awards in the 2017 contest.
Eligibility:
- any child or grandchild (or step-child, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2014, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2014, is eligible to apply. The Elk must also be a paid-up member through March 31, 2017. Great-grandchildren are not eligible.
- The applicant must be a high school senior.
- Applicants must take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT) by December 31, 2016.
University of Minnesota Rochester Health Care Scholars Day
At the University of Minnesota Rochester, we want to help provide students with the resources to make their education more affordable. This year, we plan to do so by hosting a scholarship competition. The Health Care Scholars Day competition will take place on February 4, 2017.
2017 Cabela's Women in Leadership Scholarship
Any female student graduating from a Nebraska high school in the spring 2017 and planning to begin college in the fall 2017 can apply for a $10,000 ($2,500 a year for four years) scholarship. The deadline to apply is February 6, 2017.
Hy-Vee Foundation Scholarships
The Hy-Vee Foundation is proud to award up to 80 - $1,000 scholarships to students seeking a four-year degree at any baccalaureate degree-granting college in the United States. The student must be currently working for Hy-Vee for the last 6 months. Click here for more information and an application or visit www.hy-vee.com and look under company info. The Nebraska Press Association Foundation Scholarships
The Nebraska Press Association Foundation scholarship applications for 2016-17 current high school seniors and college students are now available.
The Foundation will offer up to four total (high school and college) scholarships of $2,000 each.
Preference will be given to Nebraska students who will be pursuing newspaper journalism education at a Nebraska college or university.
Scholarship applications must be postmarked by February 17, 2017.
Fine Arts Scholarships: Art, Music, Theater
