Jackie Robinson
A Perseverence story
He Kept Trying
Jackie Robinson went to a dodgers tryout even though they almost never excepted black people into the league. (291)
He Could Not Tell
Jackie Robinson got signed a contract with the Montreal Royals but he couldn’t tell anyone except his mother and Ray because he didn’t want to ruin it.(295)
He Pushed Through
“They’ll taunt and goad you, they’ll do anything to make you react. They’ll try to provoke a race riot in the ballpark. This is the way to frighten the fans make them afraid to tend the games.” (294)
I chose this quote because he goes past all of it and perseveres.
He Could Not Quit
“Could I turn the other cheek? I didn’t know how I would do it. Yet I knew that I must. I had to do it for so many reasons. For black youth, for my mother, for Rae, for myself. I had already begun to feel I had to do it for Branch Rickey.”(295)
