CATS Corner
Walker Elementary
From the Principal, Mrs. Dameron
Thank you for your amazing attendance at Open House and Watch Dog Night. We had a great time! Please make sure to take a look at our October calendar items. We have a busy October.
Just a reminder, our doors open at 7:45am. Please make sure your child is not dropped off before 7:45am. We want our Wildcats to remain safe and always supervised. We have started "Power Hour" that begins at 7:45am and ends at 8:30am. Monday - Thursday will give teachers the opportunity to review/reteach lessons, provide individualized tutoring, and opportunities for students to complete assignments or homework. Every Friday in grades 2-5 will be our "Club" day. Ask your child about what club they signed up for.
Students arriving after 8:05 am MUST be signed in at the front desk by a parent or guardian. Students arriving after 8:05 am will be counted tardy unless they are arriving to school via CFISD buses.
Please remember our dismissal time is 3:20 pm. If students are picked up prior to that time, they are missing classroom instruction. Students who walk or ride their bike to school will be dismissed after buses leave the school in the afternoon. This will ensure that students are kept safe as they leave the school property.Crisis Drills Wednesday October 11th
During the month of October, we will be practicing four emergency or crisis drills: Shelter in Place-Weather Related, Shelter in Place-Hazardous Materials, Secure the Building, and Lockdown. These drills are in addition to our monthly fire drill.
While we do not anticipate the need to use these crisis procedures, it is important that we practice them to improve our ability to protect students, save lives and reduce injuries. Please be aware that the Secure the Building drill, the Lockdown Drill and the Hazardous Materials drill require that we lock all doors into the building and that no one is allowed to enter or to exit the building until the “all clear” is given. A sign will be posted on the front door, indicating that a drill is in progress.
In the event of an actual emergency, students will only be released to the parents or other adults listed on the student’s Emergency Card. Please ensure that this information is updated and accurate.
The crisis drills will be repeated in the Spring.
If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to call the school at 218-345-3200.
