Organization can be the key to success!
Organization is not a superpower, it’s just a set of strategies and skills. It takes trial and error! Here are some practical tips that might help you get started.
Write it down. “I’ll remember later” should be added to the category of famous last words. Always, always, write it down. A homework assignment, someone’s number, a reminder to bring your athletic gear. Write it down in a reliable place: Things like your planner, or the notes app on your phone are good options; the palm of your hand or some scrap of paper you’ll shove into your bag never to be seen again are not.
Put the same thing in the same place every time. No exceptions. Getting organized means building better habits and habits are built through repetition. Training yourself to always, always put the keys in the same pocket of your backpack (not in the pocket of your coat, which you may not be wearing tomorrow, or on the bed where they’ll get buried) is the only way to be sure you’ll know where they are when you need them.
Breaking overwhelming tasks into smaller, more manageable pieces will help you get things done. Choose smaller tasks that give you the most bang for your buck. For example, if cleaning your room feels totally impossible, making your bed or taking out the trash is a better use of your time than, say, reorganizing your sock drawer according to softness.
The simpler the better. Sound familiar? I can’t say it enough: Simple strategies and tools you actually use beat awesome and elaborate ones you don’t.

A crisis can happen at any time. And it isn’t always a life-threatening situation. Maybe you’re stressed about school, work, family or your housing situation? There’s a new way to reach out. New York State has partnered with Crisis Text Line, an anonymous texting service available 24/7. Starting a conversation is easy. Text GOT5 to 741741.
Use the Safe School Helpline: The number is 1-800-4-1-VOICE (1-800-418-6423) ext. 359. This is monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Reports may also be made by texting the word "TIPS" to 66746 or online at safeschoolhelpline.com. The company also has introduced the Safe School HelpLine app, available for both Apple and Android devices. This app quickly gives users all three options for reporting valuable information.
There is also Lifeline, a 24 hour crisis line, in Rochester. You can call 211 or 275-5151.
