Principal's Message
The Notes app on my phone reveals a lot about my personality and what makes me tick. I love lists. To do lists, research lists, garden planning lists, shopping lists, lists of personal goals, lists of dream travel destinations, movies to watch lists, and books to read lists. There are currently 312 lists in my app but this holiday weekend I took a break from schoolwork and home improvement projects to focus on balance and self-care. As much as we all need that right now, that wasn't on any of my lists. All of us - students, teachers, and parents - have experienced a major unexpected shift in the way we spend our days with our families - working, learning, and spending time together. Recently I've read a few articles about how important it is not to feel like you have to always be focused on accomplishing something during the pandemic and so I gave myself permission this weekend to just read. Not a professional journal or the unending stream of emails, but books that interest me. It brought me joy! My wish for students and families in the final three weeks is you find a way to balance activities that bring you joy and completing the school year strong by participating in class meetings and turning in assignments.
P.S. If you're looking for a good book to read, I highly recommend Refugee by Alan Kratz. The author weaves together compelling stories of three teens in different eras and geopolitical settings in this thought-provoking book.
Warmly,
Jill O'Neill
Class Fee Adjustment
BSD is adjusting the 2nd semester class fees by half due to the circumstances which came about with the Covid-19 pandemic and the move to remote learning.
- If the class fee had been paid, we are refunding half the amount. Students in grades 9-11 will have this amount refunded to their on-account balance which can be applied to future charges or other outstanding fees. Seniors will have this refunded to their parent or guardian via credit card-refund or check.
- If the class fee has not been paid yet for 2nd semester, these outstanding amounts will be adjusted by half.
This reduction/refund for spring semester 2020 is related to class fees only, and not other fees related to missing items or participation. If your family is unable to pay class fees please contact your student's counselor, Mr. Gladney, or Ms. O'Neill.
ISB Seniors Featured in 32nd Annual Herzog-Meier Senior Art Scholarship Show
Since 1988, Herzog-Meier Auto Center has donated more than $100,000 for 210 scholarships to Beaverton School District seniors. The company has continued its collaboration with the Beaverton Education Foundation, a public charity that supports strong public schools in the Beaverton community. BEF develops and maintains strategic partnerships to fund programs that inspire and increase student achievement, for logistics, media and event support. This year Herzog-Meier Auto Center & BEF worked in tandem to move the show and adjudication online due to the extraordinary circumstances surrounding Covid-19. Scholarship recipients are selected solely on artistic merit by a panel composed of professionals in art, media and design from Nike, Studio Cue and Oregon Society of Artists. We hope you join us in celebrating these incredible student artists including ISB Seniors Jade Bottger, Cheyenne Estabillo, Paris Golder, Chunfei Huang, Nooha Mohammed, Kaadish Oaxaca Najera, Matthew Tran, Max Weider, Grace Ying, and Charles Zheng. Volunteer Updates
With the unprecedented public health crisis posed by COVID-19, ALL volunteer activities have been suspended until further notice. However, it is important to remember that these challenging times will end and volunteer activities will resume.
Here are a few important steps volunteers can take now to be ready to go when the suspension on volunteer activities is lifted.
Username & Password
As a reminder, when volunteering resumes, volunteers are required to sign in and sign out through the volunteer computer station located in the school front office. To do this, they need the username and password they created for the Volunteer and Background Check Application process.
- To retrieve, or reset either of these, go to myimpactpage.com and click on the “Forgot Username or Password” link. The username and a temporary password will be emailed to them.
- With this information, login again to myimpactpage.com and they will be prompted to create a new permanent password. Passwords need to be a minimum of 8 characters, with at least one upper and one lower case letter and at least one number.
New locations for the 2020-21 school year?
Volunteers should send an email to update_volunteer_locations@beaverton.k12.or.us if they would like to update their school preference for 2020-21, or if they are no longer volunteering.
They should include:
Name of school(s) to add
Name of school(s) to remove
Remove all schools and Archive from system
Thank you to all our ISB Volunteers!
Remote Learning Phase 3 Schedule Revisions: Furlough Day Plan
To mitigate some of the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the District will be participating in Oregon’s Work Share program. This participation will result in weekly furlough days of staff each Friday through the end of the school year. To account for these furlough Fridays, the following adjustments to the student, teacher, and service provider weekly work schedule are necessary.
The majority of teacher and service provider input and learning activities for students will continue to be asynchronous. Asynchronous learning allows for the greatest flexibility to address the needs of staff and students. Any synchronous learning will be within the schedule below to limit scheduling conflicts for students. Teachers and service providers will not be available virtually, by phone or via email on Fridays for student or parent consultation, to deliver instruction or to provide feedback on student work.
Student Help Desk Is Available
For students needing help with the BSD student device or applications, IT has created a student help desk. Students can email the help desk at shd@beaverton.k12.or.us or call (503) 356-4656 for support. Please visit this link for more information.
