NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY
September 2019
In addition to learning library manners, students are learning how to take care of the library books they check out on a weekly basis. I strongly encourage students to keep their books in a Ziploc bag and keep it in their backpacks so books stay safe from water, food, pets and younger siblings. Here are a few tips to help them take good care of their library books:
Students are learning how to find just the right books by using the Five Finger Rule. Ask your child about it.
Interested in helping out? Volunteers are always welcome and there’s no training necessary. Fill out this Library Volunteer Form or stop by the library and talk to Mrs. Whitelock during school hours.
September 12th, the used book sale will be starting. It will be held every Thursday, unless it’s raining, just outside the library. Proceeds of the sale go to buying books that students are asking for. It’s a great way to support the library. Only 25 cents a book!
Support your child’s love of reading by donating new books to the library! Any new hardcover books that are purchased and donated are greatly appreciated! Here’s a link: Amazon Wish List. Donated books will have a book plate in the front of the book with your child’s name and they’ll have first check out privileges.
Another way to support the library is to donate gently used children’s books, magazines, copy paper or kleenex. You can drop them off in the library with a note.
Thank you and best wishes to get the school year off to a fantastic start!
Mrs. Nancy Whitelock, Librarian at Westwood
