A Look at Our Week
I am buzzing with excitement - we are going to be researching honeybees this week, using the bees in the media center as a great starting point to our learning. At the end of the week we will be recording each child's research on the green screen, ready for viewing at our holiday party (tba!!) Next time that you are in school, please stop by the media center to check our our hive!! I could watch them for hours....
In Math we will be working on the concept of "counting on" . This is a good introduction to addition, which we will start to work on soon. At home, it's fun to pose problems with your child such as, "If you have five pennies and I give you another 2, how many pennies will you have now?" Vary the level of difficulty depending on your child's comfort level.
When my children were in Kindergarten, I discovered a great website called "bedtimemath.com". Every night before bed, before reading a bedtime story, I would use one of their math problems to expand their thinking. It is a great resource for stretching their mathematical understanding, and applying their skills. I hope that you find this site as useful as I have done over the years.
Our AIG (Academically and Intellectually Gifted) teacher has been into our classroom to lay the seed for enquiring minds. I thoroughly recommend her website for supporting your child's academic enrichment: http://rogemk8.wixsite.com/k2nurture. It features great weekly challenges for Kindergarteners, and up.
