A Horizons Summer - Week 1

On Monday, we welcomed our students back to Horizons HR and we haven't slowed down since! Boy.. have we been busy! First and foremost, our students and staff spent some much needed time reconnecting with their HHR family. Our reading specialists, Mrs. Waild and Mrs. Mitchell, have been busy testing the math and reading levels of each student to help us monitor and better target each of their individual academic needs. In addition to beginning our daily math and reading instruction...

  • K-8 all began their daily swim lessons on Tuesday! They love their pool time with Ms. Sam and the Spindlebeak crew
  • All of our students met Ms. Chonise Thomas, our new music teacher. Each grade level visits her twice a week for 30 minutes
  • All grade levels had their first meeting with Mrs. Shannon Coleman who will be teaching 45 minute art classes each week
  • Our 7th graders visited Tidewater Community College
  • 5th and 6th graders watched Hidden Figures and got to hear about NASA from Christine Darden
  • 5th grade began learning to play chess with Champion Chess of Norfolk
  • 8th graders began movie making with WHRO
  • 7th and 8th graders met Ms. Charisse Minerva who will teach them Mindfulness on Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • K, 1st, and 2nd graders all took an exciting trip to Slover library
  • Our 7th and 8th graders had a visit from One Hour Cares to learn more about vocational careers

See below for pictures of our exciting week (on electronic version only).

Pick Up / Drop Off Procedures (NEW INFORMATION)

  1. Please drop off your children between 8 and 8:15 am. Any child who is dropped or picked up early will need to be signed out by a parent/guardian.
  2. If you would like to change your child's dismissal route, please send in a note to the teacher.
  3. Third, fourth, and seventh grade students leave the gym promptly at 8:15 am multiple days a week (third/fourth grade on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and seventh on Mondays) in order to make it to swim on time. Any child arriving after that time will miss swimming for the day and will have to remain in the office until their class returns.
  4. Parent pick up begins promptly at 3 pm. In an order to minimize back up, please do not turn into the CBA parking lot until 3 pm.
  5. As a reminder the church parking lot is one-way. Please be sure to follow all traffic signs.

Thank you for your help making our mornings and afternoon efficient and safe for everyone!
