Grizzly Gazette- 01/30/2023
January 30, 2023
Last week ended with a fun 8th grade PTO social - thank you parent volunteers for making it a great time! Congratulations to our 7th and 8th grade Boys Basketball teams for their wins against Pin Oak MS last week! We're gearing up for new sports seasons this week so see tryout information below.
It's hard to believe it- but February is here! West Briar will be celebrating Kindness in honor of this month of love. Challenge yourself to show more Random Acts of Kindness! Below you'll find a a February Kindness Calendar- share it with your family. Let's focus on being friendly, generous, and considerate this month.
Renaissance 360 MOY (Middle-of-Year) assessment results will go out this week. This assessment gives teachers valuable data regarding students mastery of grade-level TEKS. ESL students also took their TELPAS Summit K-12 Interim Assessments last week and should be receiving their scores from teachers. We will also be meeting with them to discuss what is needed to do well on TELPAS and exit the ESL program. Students identified as LEP are required to take TELPAS in addition to STAAR. (More info on TELPAS- Parent Guide (ENG) & (SPAN).

POSSIP- HISD Parent Survey
HISD Parents and Guardians received the next Possip Pulse Check on Thursday, January 26th. The Pulse Checks are short, routine, multi-lingual survey questions sent to families by text message and email. We want this feedback tool to empower families to share more about their experiences at school, so that we can better communicate, build relationships, engage our families, and assist in deploying resources. For more information about the Possip survey experience, see the video below.
HISD C.O.R.E Assemblies
Students will be having an assembly this week from the Houston ISD PD C.O.R.E program. The focus of these assemblies will be drugs, vaping, violence/safety, and making good choices. We are excited to collaborate with the C.O.R.E. (Community Outreach Responsive Engagement) team as they strive to build positive relationships with students through community outreach and a positive message. You can follow this program @HISDPDCORE on twitter or read a bit more about them here. We are hoping to stem the student conflict that has begun to pop up amongst some of our students. Following these presentations, the C.O.R.E. group will also engage with small groups of students selected by administrators as needing further intervention.
