Message from Principal Newman
It was so great seeing you at Meet and Greet on Friday, and we so excited to see everyone on Tuesday, August 16th! Thank you to everyone who helped our teachers get ready for the start of school. I was so amazed at how much was accomplished in just 1 day! Thank you PTA for the delicious lunch on Friday, that was such a treat, and the Grassmere Crew for the coolers of drinks! Thank you to all of the PTA volunteers for getting the school supplies delivered and our CHIEFS who will be helping out with arrival and dismissal!
As you can tell from Meet and Greet on Friday, there is still a lot of work which needs to be done with construction. Construction workers will not be present in the building during school hours. They will be completing the work after the students have been dismissed. I can't wait to see how it will look when it is complete!
I am so grateful of your continued support of our amazing school. It is going to be a wonderful school year.
We are better together!

First Day of School- August 16th
Second through sixth grade students will walk to their classrooms. Staff members will be located throughout the school to help students as needed.
Please make sure your child has all of their items for school including their lunch, snack (if needed), lunch money, water bottle etc... when dropping off in the morning.
Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Our arrival and dismissal procedures are changing this year because of the added construction. Please open up the attachment for specific details. You received a hard copy at Meet and Greet.
All families should have received 2 car tags for car rider dismissal at Meet and Greet. (If you only have a kindergartener, you can get those from your child's kindergarten teacher when you drop off your child Tuesday morning.) If you need another carpool tag, please reach out to your child's classroom teacher. When picking up your child, please make sure it is displayed on your front dash by the passenger side so our staff members can easily see it to radio for your child. Car riders will be waiting inside the building and will come out when their name is called.
Please make sure when picking up your child you are pulled up next to the sidewalk area so cars may go around.
Walkers will be dismissed on the south side of the school, and the front circle drive will be used for daycare and RISD busses.
When dropping off your child in the morning, you may use the front circle drive or the drive which goes around the school.
For the safety of you and your child, when dropping off or picking up in the carpool lane, please stay in your vehicle. Students will need to exit and enter your vehicle from the curb side.
Breakfast & Lunch Information
Breakfast is served from 7:30 AM to 7:50 AM. The cost is $2.10 for students and lunch is $2.80. The federal government is requiring families to sign up to receive free or reduced price school meals for the school year. To apply for benefits go to http://SchoolLunchApp.com
Information about lunch visitors will be communicated at a later time. Our new cafeteria tables have been delayed and are expected to arrive some time in October. We are limited in space with our old tables.
Safety & Security
Safety and Security is a top priority for us. It is important you complete a background check yearly if you will be volunteering for school activities. Please go to https://risd.voly.org/to fill out an application. Please make sure to bring your ID every time when you will be visiting or volunteering at school. It is a requirement that we run your ID through our Raptor system and give you a sticker to wear when you are in Mohawk. This is a requirement for any activity we will have during the school day including field trips. We do not need to raptor visitors for after school activities.
Before entering the building, you will need to push the red buzzer. Our office staff will ask how they can help you before letting you in . This is a requirement for everyone even if our office staff knows who you are. We appreciate your support and patience with this.
