DID YOU KNOW YOUR DONATIONS CAN ACTUALLY SAVE A LIFE????

On May 20th, 2013, I received a call from my Executive Director in Liberia. He advised me that a family needed financial help. A little boy had been throwing up blood and could not get to a hospital due to lack of funds. Eventually was taken to the hospital and upon arrival, he was told he had cancer though there weren't any scans taken to confirm this diagnosis.

Finally after few days in the hospital, he was then diagnosed with Sepsis - there were no treatment available nor could they afford hospital stay (note - his leg is completely swollen, discoloration (green) and blistered). I researched for medications online in the interim per doctors recommendation. I found two companies that carried the medications and would ship to Liberia. The cost was exceedingly high and hence, I proceeded to seek donations but to no avail. On May 29th, the little boy traveled to Ghana for treatment. His name, LEWIS Z. JOEJOE; a fifteen year old. He was pronounced dead May 30th, 2013. His parents could not afford to fly his body back to Liberia and was buried in Ghana.

This is the true definition of Poverty.......its no longer just a word.....it's how these children live. This story and others alike, will remain with me forever.
