Woodland Elementary School
Updates for the Week of April 19 through April 23
A Note from Mr. Wollberg
What a wonderful week both in-person and remote! It was so great to see more students in the building this week and amazing to see our staff continue to build such positive relationships with both in-person and remote students! Both Mr. Block and I keep hearing from our students what color they want us to dye our hair but more importantly, I am glad the students are making a difference by picking up garbage in celebration of Earth Day on April 22.
We are excited to have our first school-wide ROAR Monday on April 19. Students will be remote for the entirety of the day and we will follow our normal schedule so please make sure your child is logged in at 7:45 am.
Also, as a reminder, we have some adjustments to our CurbSmart parent pick-up and the changes are also listed below. We are asking parents rather than checking in near the Elementary West entrance to now pull forward to our parent pick-up location as students will be waiting in the East cafeteria.
Lastly, with more students coming into the building we are hearing more and more questions about the relocation of classrooms and actual cases of Covid. Woodland created a COVID-19 Dashboard to help stakeholders understand the impact of this virus-specific to Woodland. Please check the dashboard daily to see case counts for students and staff. This is a live document and the data will be updated throughout the day as new cases are confirmed.
The COVID-19 dashboard provides a big picture view of COVID19 cases in our Woodland learning community. More specific information will be shared by us at Elementyary or classroom level if your child was potentially impacted by a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19.
We look forward to another wonderful week to come and thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Ryan Wollberg
Principal

CurbSmart
Woodland Elementary is pleased to announce that we will be using CurbSmart to manage our student release process! CurbSmart is an easy-to-use app that instantly synchronizes pick-up lane arrivals, allowing school staff inside and outside to coordinate the safe and organized release of students after school. School staff use the application by entering placard numbers into an iPad or other device in which classroom teachers view a list of student names on another device in the classroom where they release the students. In an effort to provide the safest and most efficient release of students from our school, please be advised of the following rules and procedures:
All pick-up changes need to be made prior to 12:00 pm as our new CurbSmart pick-up program will not allow for changes past 12:00 pm. A report is generated at that time and we are unable to make further updates
Each family will be issued 3 placards with a number. You must have this placard displayed for dismissal. Please display the placard in your vehicle’s dashboard or from the rear-view mirror so it is clearly visible for entry by the staff member. If you forget your placard you will need to go to a “holding area” and will have to wait to pick up your child. Be prepared to show identification to start the release process.
So we can thoroughly communicate your child’s mode of transportation to his/her teacher, there will be a hard cut-off time of noon each day for parents to make pick-up changes through the school office. This includes carpooling.
CurbSmart pick-up line does not open until 1:40 Monday-Friday. Drive around the building to the East cafeteria doors (C10). Stop at the designated area and a staff member will check you in where you will pick up your child.
Meanwhile, students will be dismissed to the cafeteria and awaiting your arrival while also socially distanced in our East Cafeteria.
A staff member will walk your child to your car. If your child has not made it to the release point you will be asked to pull up to a waiting area. Once your child is in your car they are officially released from the program.
Our car line is a “cell phone free” zone. Please keep all eyes and ears alert for the safety of our staff and students.
If you need to pick up your child before 1:40 you will need to park in a legal parking space in your school’s parking lot and present your placard number at the security camera at the main entrance of Elementary East or West.

Virtual Calming Corner
Please also take a few minutes to explore the different resources found on the bookshelf. You will find a variety of videos demonstrating breathing strategies, yoga routines, and mindfulness practices that will help students be ready to learn. Have some fun while practicing these! It is best to practice calming strategies when students are regulated so they are familiar when a student is struggling with strong emotions.
If you have any questions about the virtual calming corner or the resources available, please don’t hesitate to contact your student’s teacher or social worker!
