•• New & Important Information ••
Note from the Nurse
Focus on Public Health & Safety:
Car Seat Safety
Motor vehicle crashes are one of the leading causes of death of young children. The best way to protect your child during a crash is to make sure you stay up to date on car seat safety laws.
Washington's Child Passenger Restraint Law (RCW 46.61.687) requires:
- Children up to age 2 must be properly secured in a rear-facing car seat.
- Children ages 2-4 years must ride in a car seat with a harness (rear or forward facing).
- Children 4 and older must ride in a booster seat until they are 4' 9" tall.
- Children over height 4' 9" must be secured by a properly fitted seat belt (typically starting at 8-12 years old).
- Children up to age 13 must ride in the back seat when practical to do so
- Child restraint system must comply with U.S. DOT standards and be used according to vehicle and child restraint manufacturer.
**The fine for not wearing a seatbelt or appropriate child restraint costs the driver $124.
Seattle Children’s Hospital offers free car seat safety checks at their Bellevue Clinic every Tuesday from 10am-1pm. Please see the link below for more information. Appointments are required.
Northshore School District Substitute Nurses
Northshore School District is looking for RNs interested in becoming substitute school nurses. This is a great way to get hours towards keeping your license active. If you enjoy working with school age children, Northshore is a great place to work in school health. If you are interested, talk to your school nurse, or call the Nursing Supervisor's office at 425-408-7728.
COVID update
The Department of Health (DOH) requires schools to inform families and students about COVID-19 case numbers and potential outbreaks. Over the past two weeks, there has been a total of 6 confirmed cases at our school. The accuracy of our data depends on self-reporting. Thank you for continuing to let the school know if your child tests positive for COVID-19. To view additional information, including school and district trends visit the District’s COVID-19 data dashboard. The dashboard is updated weekly on Monday evenings.
If your child is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 keep them home and test for COVID-19. Families can order free COVID-19 tests from the state. Together, we can keep our schools healthy and safe.

PRESCHOOL
Northshore preschool programs are now enrolling children, ages 3-5. The preschool years are among the most critical in a child's life that influence learning. The Northshore School District is committed to providing the support that our youngest learners need to prepare them to succeed in school, cultivate friendships, and create a sense of community and belonging. The district proudly offers a variety of inclusive general education learning environments. Classes implement the Creative Curriculum, a developmental whole child framework approach, and utilize the GOLD assessment tool to monitor student learning.
Available preschool programs include both FREE and tuition-based options.
