IN THE LOOP
Red Lion Area School District - Spring 2023
GO LIONS!
Hi, Lion Families! I'm honored to be taking part in my first district-wide newsletter since being appointed Superintendent. The past few months have flown by because the good times roll!
I've learned a lot over the past three months - first and above all else - I learned how much I love being back home at my alma mater. I’ve met many wonderful people, reconnected with old friends, and can’t wait to get to know more of our students, staff, and community members.
To keep you reading - I’ve decided to cut the fluff and get right down to business.
I have a clear, simple vision for the Red Lion Area School District. This vision complements our mission and has set my priorities for the coming months as your leader.
Safe, secure, and healthy school environments for our students and staff.
Quality education that results in high academic performance for all students.
Open, honest communication to build an informed, connected, and engaged community.
Recently, we established a Student Advisory Council. This diverse group of students plays a vital role in understanding the hopes, dreams, needs, and challenges of our children.
Next, we want to establish a Citizen Advisory Committee. If you were a part of Don Dimoff’s Community Advisory Committee or Todd McCliman’s Comprehensive Plan Committee, you'll soon hear from me. In the weeks ahead, keep watch for a personal email inviting you to join our Citizen Advisory Committee!
If you weren't part of these groups but want to get involved, please sign up here. I have high hopes for this committee, and it's an assignment I want members to take seriously. I look forward to the productive, collaborative, and constructive work ahead, building a stronger LION community.
One last thing - and it's important - Thank you!
Thank you, Red Lion Area administrators, teachers, and staff. Your commitment to our District makes me excited for our students and our future. Go LIONS!
WELCOMING GOOD HEALTH & WELLNESS
"Health is a state of body. Wellness is a state of mind." - J. Stanford
If we want to improve the health and wellness of our student body... we've got to start at the top... with the adults! Soon, we'll launch a new staff wellness committee. We're focused on supporting our teachers and staff right where they are while giving them access to new information, tools, and opportunities to enhance their overall health and well-being.
Attention RLASD Teachers and Staff! - We promise this wellness initiative isn't a punishment!
Our hope is that our new efforts maximize your benefits, and increase your levels of fun and fitness while helping you explore new ways of living a healthy lifestyle.
Speaking of healthy lifestyles... there's more to wellness than what you eat and how much you exercise (although we do believe nutrition and movement rank at the top of the list)!
There's a lot to learn, not just from each other but from other cultures and parts of the world!
- Watch this teacher from Japan teach us eight simple habits to make our lives so much better!
- Read about the Danish lifestyle taking over the world!
- Consider stealing these 11 Healthy Habits from Around the World.
- Check out this clip to see how the Blue Zones could add years and zest to your life!
Thanks for taking the time to learn from the world around us! But guess what?
Student and staff wellness isn't all that matters - we want everyone to get involved!
A healthy, well school district must be supported by a committed, engaged community to maintain successful practices and initiatives. Tell us your thoughts about health and wellness here.
Let's Stay Healthy LIONS!
5 WEIRD & FASCINATING HUMAN BODY FACTS
"Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live." - Jim Rohn
We can't speak of health and wellness without thinking about the weirdly fascinating human body...
1. You do not breathe through both nostrils at the same time.
According to research published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings, humans inhale and exhale through one nostril at a time!
2. The average adult has at least 67 different species of bacteria residing in the belly button alone.
The human body is teeming with microbes. Our skin is even said to have its own thriving ecosystem!
3. A quarter of human bones are found in the feet.
The average human foot has 26 bones.
4. The tongue is the strongest muscle in the body.
And like fingerprints, our tongues have a unique tongue print.
5. Your body produces enough heat in 30 minutes to boil half a gallon of water.
The average body temperature is roughly 98.6ºF, yet humans can expend roughly 350,000 joules of energy per hour. The same amount of energy a 100-watt light bulb gives off!
MIGHTY LIONS - CLASS OF 2023
"Wherever you go, go with all your heart." - Confucius
The end of our school year is drawing near.
With that comes the season of celebrating our seniors!
Commencement for the Class of 2023 will be held
Friday, May 26th at 6:45 on Horn Field (weather permitting).
With pride and anticipation, we look forward to our beloved Class of 2023 turning their tassel from left to right. The gesture of a graduate moving their tassel to the right symbolizes the success of their high school career, crossing over into the next stage of life.
To the Class of 2023 -
Red Lion will remain regardless of your next destination, adventure, or plan. Our relationship does not end with graduation; it simply changes form. You may no longer walk our school halls, but you are always welcome to return!
Whether it's help with education or employment needs in the future, support with life's inevitable challenges, or want to give back in some way to your beloved alma mater - All roads lead to Red Lion. Now go, become responsible, productive citizens, and know that your school community remains - and we can't wait to see you reach your greatest potential.
Congratulations, Class of 2023! Go LIONS!

SUNSHINE BLESSINGS FOR OUR COMMUNITY
"Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. - Jenny Han
Let us revel in summer!
Let us soak up the long days and warm sun.
May our feet walk on sandy beaches and our heads rest on thick grass under blue skies.
May we listen to and marvel at the singing of the birds.
Let us stop to watch blissful children at play.
This summer, may our breathing slow and our hearts open.
May the sunrays bring with them a season of possibility and opportunity.
May we be present to all that is so that we might best see all that might be.
May summer break bring hope and blessings to our Red Lion Area community. Go LIONS!
