Final Recovery Week 1 (of 2)

This week and next are "recovery weeks" read more below:

Here's what to expect in class this week:

"Recovery Week" means that no new assignments will be due. It will give those of you who are behind some time to get caught up, and those who are on-time, time to work ahead.

You will need to use your time effectively:
  • Work on your Final Project
  • Work on your Final LinguaFolio Project
  • Coaching is required this week - you must attend as scheduled. It will count for a regular grade.
  • Submit any assignments that you have not submitted from lessons 9 through 15 for late credit.

Also, don't forget:

  • Vote for Language Coach of the Year!
  • Take the NCVPS Student survey!
  • Upcoming Culture Cafes!

Be sure to read the announcements for some Bonus Point opportunities!

Coaching During Recovery Week 1 is REQUIRED

Coaching during THIS Recovery Week will count as a regular grade.

Coaching during Recovery Week 2 (next week) will count as either make-up or bonus. The Maximum number of sessions you may attend during recovery week 2 as bonus/make-up is 4.

Your final grade for this class is calculated as such:

  • 1st Grading Period: 37.5% of overall grade
  • 2nd Grading period 37.5% of overall grade
  • Final Project: 25% of overall grade

This Week in the Culture Cafe:

We have TWO culture cafes coming up this week:

★ Tuesday, May 10th, 7:00 PM - Japanese: Longevity in Okinawa (with Boutin sensei!)

★ Friday, May 13th, 8:30 PM LIVE FROM JAPAN: Japanese: Preparation & Advice for Studying Abroad in Japan (with Coach & Former NCVPS Japanese student, Logan Lampkins!)

Beaver Sensei's Office Hours This Week

My office hours this week will be different!! On Thursday and Friday, I will be going to Michigan State University to represent NCVPS and co-present with the team from the National Foreign Language Resource Center at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa at the Computer Assisted Language Instruction Consortium (CALICO) Conference.

If you need to contact me on Thursday or Friday this week, please e-mail or text me.

Otherwise, you will be able to find me on Blackboard IM Monday through Wednesday. You can also call or text me!

  • Mon: 7:00-9:00 PM
  • Tues: 1-4:00 PM
  • Wed: 1-4:00 PM (and 7 to 8 PM for Project Help Night!)

NCVPS is excited to announce our first annual search for excellence in World Language coaching!

NCVPS will recognize a World Language Coach who demonstrates exemplary instruction, support and commitment to his/her students.

Award Description

The World Language Coach Award is to recognize a coach whose innovative practices serve as a model for others. Their work results in improving the overall success of students as well as effectiveness of online learning. Their performance has led to opportunities for students and improved student achievement.

Nominations will be accepted from NCVPS students who are currently enrolled in a World Language course as well as NCVPS teachers.
