News from Glen Crest Middle School: August 15, 2022
From the Principal
We are so excited to welcome our students back for their first full day of school on Wednesday, August 17th!
If your child did not have the opportunity to participate in the visitation days last week, you can pick up your child's schedule, bus information, locker assignment, and lock tomorrow between 2:00 and 4:00. Schedules and bus information can also be found by logging onto PowerSchool as long as you have completed the registration process.
School physicals, dental forms and proof of COVID-19 vaccination can also be dropped off during these times. Covid vaccination is not required. School physicals and dental forms are required by Illinois School Code for all sixth graders and any seventh graders who did not turn them in last year.
ID's
Sixth graders and some seventh and eighth graders who did not get IDs at the schedule pick-up days will receive them on the first day of school.
Bus riders
Students who ride the bus should be at their bus stops 10 minutes early on the first few days until the timing of the route is worked out. Please be patient the first few days as some of the drivers are new and the times listed on the route sheets are estimates.
PE uniforms
PE uniforms will be distributed in PE class in a few days. If you need to purchase a uniform for your student, you can do so on www.myschoolbucks.com.
Lunch
You are able to pre-load money into your student's lunch account through your MySchoolBucks account. The students then use their ID as a debit card. I encourage you to talk with your students about what their limit is for spending and not load too much money at once. They are also able to pay with cash. The lines will move slowly for the first few days until everyone learns the procedures. You may want your child to bring a lunch to ensure they have enough time to eat initially.
Looking forward to a great first few days!!
Meet our new staff!
Madeline Payne - 6th grade math & science
Kyle Falson - 8th grade science
Sam Koppitz - music & drama
Rana Khan - special education
Kelly Tuggle - PE
Jeff Romani - technology
Jackie Babiarz - adaptive PE
Drop off and Pick up
Please do not enter the school lot during arrival and dismissal unless your child needs special assistance or you have a reason to come to the office. Also, please pay attention to the crossing guards and help us keep all of our students safe!
Our 6th and 7th graders will enter Door #1, the main entrance. Our 8th graders will enter Door #2 on the east end of the building up the ramp.
Extra-curricular activities
7th and 8th grade sports - current physical REQUIRED!
Cross Country season will begin with an informational meeting on August 25. Sixth graders interested in cross country in the fall are covered for their physicals. Cross country and track are the two sports teams sixth graders are eligible to participate in.
Students should listen to the morning announcements to see when the different clubs and intramurals will begin!
