From The Library
Author Adam Lehrhaupt Visits Doyle
Dear Parents and Students,
We are excited to welcome the author Adam Lehrhaupt to Doyle on Friday, October 21st.
Adam’s first book Warning: Do Not Open this Book received the E.B. White Read Aloud Honor Award, and School Library Journal has described his books as “more fun than a barrel of monkeys!”
We look forward to laughing and reading with Adam as we learn more about his life as an author. He will surely give Doyle readers and writers some inspiration!
Booktender's Secret Garden is offering the books at a 20% discount. Please fill out the
order form return it to school no later than Tuesday, October 11th.
Please make checks payable to Booktender's Secret Garden.
All of the books are available to peruse in the library, or email/call the library for a recommendation-- hherwig@cbsd.org 267-893-4309.
Help us protect our library books!
We have had lots of visitors to the Doyle Library so far this school year, which it fantastic. Lots of books being read, enjoyed, and recommended to friends and classmates. Unfortunately, we have seen many books damaged this year, and the common cause seems to be water bottles and drinks in lunch boxes and backpacks.
We have talked with all of the classes and reminded students to put their water bottles in outside pockets of their backpacks or carry them separately. Any help you can give us to help prevent this from happening is appreciated.
Thank you!

Walk to School Day is Thursday, October 6th!
Kids in 40 countries around the world are walking! Kids in all 50 states are walking! Kids at Doyle Elementary are walking, too! Last year we had a record number of kids participate in the: Doyle Walk to School Grade Challenge. Which grade rules the school for walking? Let’s see… Each grade is competing to bring the largest turn-out ever. Join the fun and walk, bike, scoot or skate to school on Thursday, October 6th! Each grade will have a grade specific poster to sign. Totals will be tallied that morning with the winning grade receiving a shout out during announcements for largest participation. For more information about Walk to School Day, visit: http://www.walkbiketoschool.org/ or http://www.iwalktoschool.org/.

Message From The Counselor
Anxiety
Healthy anxiety
· Motivating
· Fluctuates in response to stress
· Mild – enhances performance
Excessive anxiety
· Persists over an extended period of time
· Does not fluctuate as a response – is more chronic
· Interferes with performance
In the coming months we will provide strategies for parents in helping children learn to navigate through anxiety in a healthy way. Your job as a parent is NOT to rescue or prevent your child from feeling distress. Your job is to model, teach, and support your child with active coping skills. Your reaction to your child’s response to stress is what he/she sees first.
